Martinez Not Depending On View of Ring Experts Vince Training Hard for Dayey Go Despite Being Picked to Win Although most experts are picking Vince Martinez to soundly trounce Chuck Davey in their May 26 meeting at Chicago Stadium, there is one man who is not depending on their opinions. That party would be Mr. Martinez, who has the most at stake in his first Chicago appearance with the Michigan State left hander. Martinez, once the" rookie of the year and presently the No. 6 welterweight contender, is bringing a southpaw to Chicago with him when he arrives in the Windy City. Also, -he had a bout with a southpaw, Babyface Jones, in Youngstown, Ohio, last Thursday, winning handily. His manager, Bill Daly, took the bout with the idea of sharpening up for Davey in the warm up match. Daly said he was satisfied with the showing of his protege against his first left handed opponent. Vince had Jones down once and won handily and looked especially good in the later rounds after he had solved the style of the southpaw Jones. Martinez record includes 35 wins- and only three losses. Davey has a 39 4 2 record. Meanwhile, Davey continues his drills each day in the Michigan State field house near his Lansing home. Both fighters expect to arrive in Chicago about a week before the bout. Truman Gibson, secretary of the IBC, said that he has had several hundred personal requests for tickets and said that he is optimistic at this early stage in the campaign. Gibson said tickets would go on sale May 17 at the Stadium. Meanwhile, the two Chicago welterweights, Johnny Brown and Luther Raw-lings continue their drills for the state elimination 10-rouhder on the May 26 card.
