Favorable Report Made On Correlations Status Regarded as Near-Certain Starter In Preakness; Works Half Mile HOLLYWOOD PARK, Inglewood, Calif., May 11. Robert S. Lytles California-bred Correlation was regarded a near-certain starter for the May 22 Preakness at Pimlico following a report here today that trainer Noble Threewitt was satisfied his sophomore charge was recuperating satisfactorily from injuries suffered during the. running of the Kentucky Derby. Threewitt talked by long distance telephone last night to trainer Harold Simmons who has the colt at Pimlico and, informed that veterinarians had pronounced Correlation well on the way to recovery from a blind splint for which five punch-firings were made following the Derby Threewitt approved a suggestion that the colt be breezed a half mile at Pimlico this morning. The veterinarians had indicated Correlation was ready for a workout, Threewitt stated. Pimlico dockers reported Correlation as breezing the half in :48 and going on an additional furlong for a five-eighths mile drill in 1:02, getting his first quarter in :23. Threewitt plans to fly to Pimlico on Monday or Tuesday to take personal charge of the colt. Lytle is reported vacationing in White Sulphur Springs, W. Va., and is due at the Lord Baltimore hotel on Thursday. Threewitt said last night that the slight swelling that followed the punch-firing was reported to have almost disappeared while the heel slashes the colt suffered during the rugged Derby chase were practically healed as of yesterdays examination by the- veterinarians.
