J. MURPHY SPORTSMANS PARK, Cicero, 111., May 11. Foxie Jeanie, a fleet three-year-old filly bred and owned by Marion VanBerg, remained unbeaten when she took the featured Swing On Purse here this afternoon. The daughter of Equifax, who made the first start of her career about one week ago and was an easy winner, spread-eagled her field to score by two and one-half lengths under the riding of jockey Anthony Skoronski, While Run Red Run, a first-time starter here, defeated Georgeous Miss narrowly for second place. Foxie Jeanie, second choice in the wagering, paid .80 and her time for the five furlongs was 1:00. Judge Browdee was the favc-te in the eight-horse race, but finished in seventh place. The colt, usually a very quick beginner, was obliged to break from outside post position, and unable to outrun some of the others, was carried wide by Bull Hierocles on the first turn. He never recovered and was beaten about 10 lengths at the finish. .Flying Bry, who was runner-up to Foxie Jeanie in the first half-mile, ended up in fourth place. Weather Takes Turn for Better The weather, while still rather cool, took a turn for the better inasmuch as the sun came out about mid-afternoon. A gathering of 9,553 was in attendance and the track was fast. Jockey Don Wagner, who will start serving a. 10-day suspension Thursday, made hay while the sun shone in riding two of the first five winners. He started off the afternoon in hustling Double Barrel to triumph in the opener, and won the fourth event with Thistle War. Each of his mounts were outsiders on the morning line, but ended up being well played. The winners circle hardly had sufficient room for the horse when David Gardner and William Beals, the owners of the Bee Gee Farms, and their friends assembled pose for the photographers with Petal after the Elpis Purse, first of todays f ea- tures. Favored by the crowd, the daughter of Spy Snare skipped to the finish of the six furlongs a length before Mrs. John D. Hertz pacemaking Speedy Wave, who led Stephen Messanas Hadassah another lengtlj. Alfred G. Vanderbilts Outsmart, who saved considerable ground at the end, finished a neck out of the money. Petal returned .10 and the veteran Joe Renick hustled her over the six furlongs in 1:12 on a "good" track. Petal is, so far as can be readily determined, the only offspring of Spy Snare to race. The sire., now dead, was, a son Questionnaire from the brilliant Mata Hari, who was foaled in 1940 and obviously took his name, if nothing else., from his dam. The disappointment, for the sixth time this year, of the Elpis was Mrs. Ben Whitakers Grecian Queen. The 1953 sophomore filly champion failed to beat a horse in the field of nine, dropping back to last place soon after the start and trailing the rest, of the way. W. M. Wickhams Winning Stride ran almost as badly, finishing eighth and never being any closer to the leaders. Speedy Wave cut out a fast early pace, followed by Tiny Request, Miss Weesie, Emardee, Outsmart and Petal. The order remained the same to the three-furlong pole, where Petal began to move up rapidly on the outside. Petal collared Speedy Wave at the head of the stretch and gradually drew away.
