Summer Tan Seeks Juvenile Stakes Youthful Winner Faces Eight Rivals Carries 122, Giving Weight To Each Foe; Gold Box and Nashua Seen Ones to Beat BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., May 11. A field of nine of the 199 original nominees Was named this morning to dispute the 78th running of the 0,000 added Juvenile Stakes at five furlongs on the Widener course here Wednesday. Mrs. R. A. Firestones Summer Tan, winner of an overnight race and the Youthful Stakes in his only two starts at Jamaica, looms the choice in the Juvenile, though he is asked to carry 122 pounds, conceding fiye to all his rivals except Lenny Gale, who has won two minor race. The Helio-polis colt was a romping nine-length winner of a maiden race at Jamaica on April 5, then overcame difficulty to circle the leaders and beat better colts impressively in the Youthful. There is some reason, however, to suspect that the opposition Wednesday is still stronger. Greentree Stables Gold Box and Belair Studs Nashua come from clever victories at four and a half furlongs on the straight course and both are lightly raced, highly regarded colts. Gold Box scored by three lengths over Wheatley Stables Laugh, who will be coupled with Nashua, while the latter colt scored by the same margin over a large field in his recent debut, but in time that was almost a second slower than that of Gold Box. ! The Greentree colt and Laugh had finished second- and third behind Cub Scout in their debuts on April 27, separated by almost two lengths. Gold Box, like Summer Tan, is a son of Heliopolis, while Nashua is by Nasrullah. Greentree paid Charley Kenney 5,000 for Gold Box, while Summer Tan and Nashua are homebred youngsters. Guerin on Summer Tan Eric Guerin will ride Summer Tan, Eddie Arcaro will be on Nashua, while Ted : Atkinson will guide Gold Box and has the best of the post positions, the other two having drawn the unfavorable inside stalls in the gate. Laugh will have the services of Jess Higley and breaks from number 7, with Gold Box right outside of him. The others in the Juvenile are Edward M. OBriens Sound Barrier, A. J. Fer-raras Lenny Gale, Mrs. Louis Lazares Golden Prince, Mrs. Charles Silvers Stack and Maine Chance Farms Friendly Ace. The latter is a first-time starter by Ace Admiral Amiga, by Mahmoud, who has been training cleverly and is from a barn that seems to be well-armed with juve- niles this year. Sound Barrier followed a winning race at Jamaica by finishing fourth behind Summer Tan in the Youthful Stakes, faltering in the stretch after bearing out on the final bend. Lenny Gale won his first j start at New Orleans last winter, then fol-j lowed a series of defeats by scoring at the first asking at Jamaica, on April 24. EMIL DENEMARK The Chicagoans homebred two-year-old, Future Romance, won yesterdays fourth race at Churchill Downs.
