Leading from end to end, Kilkare $ Farms Necktie romped to victory in the Rooster Purse here this afternoon, reaching the finish line a length and a half before -H. P. Metcalf s Roman, Rocket. Third, a t to similar distance away, . came Frank a Wrights Sakr-El-Bahr. Only six contested t this mile and a sixteenth event over a dry- c ing-out track. s Under Willie Hartack, who was scoring his second victory of the afternoon, Necktie paid 2.20 and covered the distance over 1 a drying track, classified as slow, in 1:46. H. C. Boorses G. R. Petersen, laid at even 1 money, finished fourth, never entering oon- 1 tention at any stage of the journey. 1 A crowd of 17,115 attended on a slightly chilly day and it was an afternoon for jockey followers. Jimmy Stout, Ira Hanford and Hartack all drove home two winners through the first six races. The winner, a five-year-old gelded son of Cravat Alzura, was making his second start of the year. In his first appearance here last week, he was never in the hunt, being far back at six furlongs. This after- ! noon, in a small field, he was away alertly and quickly sent on the lead. 1 Roman Rocket and Sakr-El-Bahr followed him closely in that order around the first turn, with Ronas, G. R. Petersen and Double Header n. in that order. The latter . was far back throughout the race and, for that matter, there was little change in any positions in the entire running. Necktie cotinued to lead at all poles and I only rounding the turn was any serious 5 challenge made on him. Both Roman Rocket and Sakr-El-Bahr inched a little closer, but that was all they did. Sakr-El-. . Bahr at one stage got almost to a head of E the leader on the outside, but shot his bolt. Necktie was urged along in the stretch under left-handed whipping and, though he started to drift out, had the situation well in hand. Sakr-El-Bahr tired and bore in, being unable to hold off Roman Rocket for place. G. R. Petersen closed a little ground, but not enough, to menace the first two horses, and just missed by a neck of getting on the board.
