Thirteen Entered In Eastern Parkway Bugledrums, Peu-a-Peu, Smackover and Tahitian Named for Downs Feature CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 11. The Eastern Parkway Purse, a six-furlongs condition race for four-year-olds and older, which attracted an overnight field of 13 entrants, tops a good program Wednesday at this rustic Kentucky Derby course. Under the allowance terms of the sprint, Sam E. Wilson, Jr.s Bugledrums drew the high weight burden of 122 pounds, but the apprentice allowance was claimed for the Texas-owned stallion and he will go post-ward under 117 pounds. William Crump, who recently took over the training of the Taxas-owned Wilson stable thoroughbreds, stated this morning that young Johnny Rotz will have the mount on Bugledrums in the mid-week feature. Bugledrums, a six-year-old of Chance Sun and Hildrum, is at his best over the middle distances and his latest sucess was scored last January in the nine-furlongs Marriage Handicap at New Orleans Pair Grounds. Previous to the Marriage conquest, however, Bugledrums displayed his versatility by finishing a strong second to Pictus in the three-quarters mile Lee Handicap at the same track. In his only appearance at the current Downs meeting, the Wilson stallion ran eighth in the Churchill Downs Handicap after a rather rough journey. Each to Saddle Entry Trainers Henry Forrest and Jake Lowen-stein will saddle entries for the Eastern Parkway. Forrest will send out Keene Gurnees Peu-A-Feu, 109, and the speedy mare, Ever Bright, who campaigns under the Pollard and Harkins colors, pegged with a feathery 103 pounds. The apprentice allowance goes for. both the Forest stable probable starters and Johnny Ralph Adams may accept the mount on one of them. Lowenstein will have a hard-hitting duo in Mrs. Herbert Herffs Blue Award, 113, and Smackover, 119 pounds. Blue Award finished second to Paytu last week in the Ohio Valley Purse, decided in 1:1.0, and Smackover was a good fourth in the Lexington Handicap, which six furlongs were contested in identical time. Others expected to answer "boots and saddles" for the Eastern Parkway are J. H. Dunns former stakes-winner, Oh Leo, 116; Mrs. F. D. Stelzigs Penaction, 111; Buddah Stables Dance Nsing, 113, and Hasty House Farms Tahitian, 119 pounds. Also Thomas F. Devereux homebred Greatest, 119, Emil Denemarks Futuramatic, 113; D. H. Wells Black Bantam, 111, and Wal-mac Farms Vagabond King, 113 pounds. Vagabond King, a fashionably-bred, four-year-old son of Alibhai and Glass. Slipper, by Reigh Count, was lightly-campaigned during his three-year-old season, winning three of his six engagements and placing in two others,. Partial to the local strip, the Walmac Farm homebred colt won. the Hawthorne Purse here last autumn from a quick field and is a capable performer on muddy or dry footing. Jockey Arnold Kirkland will have the mount on Vagabond King in the Eastern Parkway, Kenneth Church is to handle Oh Leo and Forrest Kaelin Tides Penaction.
