, Rustic Billy Gains Easy Triumph at Pimlico Oval Leads Ladd by Six-Length Margin; Territory Goes Into Air at Start By PALMER HEAGERTY Staff Correspondent PIMLICO, Baltimore, Md., May 13. Mrs. James V. Stewarts homebredv Rustic Billy, a three-year-old son of Cassis Wee Bethy, made a runaway of this afternoons featured Catonsville purse, coasting to the end of the mile and one-sixteenth event with a six-length advantage over Jouett Shouses Ladd. The latter was almost that far clear of the third horse, E. M. OHerrons Mike OHerron, with R. W. Hallowells Territory fourth after having been eliminated from serious consideration when he reared at the start. The only other member of the field was Llangollen Farms Get Lost. Rustic Billy, a five-time winner last season at two, had improved steadily in his races this season. After finishing third in his debut, the chestnut gelding was twice second, once behind Woodlands and again in back of Staffordshire. Today was his first attempt at a mile and a sixteenth and the result was quite gratifying to trainer Jimmy Stewart. Rustic Billys final time of 1.46 was considered good over a track-which has been dead for the past several Continued on Page Forty-Threo 4 Rustic Billy Gains Easy Triumph at Pimlico Oval Leads Ladd by Six-Length Margin; Territory Goes Into Air at Start Continued from Page One days. The Stewart colorbearer was handled by Tommy Kane and, as second choice in the betting, returned .60 to his backers in the crowd of 10,586. As mentioned earlier, the start left much to be desired, for Territory, who earned the position of favorite through three successive Bowie victories, went into the air and lost all chance. Rustic Billy lost no time in asserting himself, putsprinting Ladd around the first turn while the pair drew clear of their rivals. With Kane keeping his mount under stout restraint, the team just breezed along on the front end, without so much as a mild challenge developing. Ladd, while no match for the winner, was just as easily second, as Mike OHerron earned the third award. Territory was able to catch the weary Get Lost, who retired after about six furlongs. The five and one-half furlongs fourth race, involving a limit field of ,500 claim-ers, resulted in a dead heat between J. A. Gross Don Jr. and Mrs. Lottie Wolfs Wolf Whistle. The latter, under Sammie Williams, charged from the outside to get on even terms in the final stride. The team was timed in 1:07. Wolf Whistle paid .80, while Don Jr., who raced coupled with Mr. Mighty and was ridden, by Tony Russo, returned .60. Third horse in this one was Cedar Farms Heureux. C. L. Cresswell, Jr.s Fox Lair beat cheap platers as a .80 favorite in the second race but there was still a liberal pay-off of 59.80 in the daily double, due to the victory of Mrs. J. R. H. Thourons Jack Frost at 5.20 in the opener. Following Fox Lairs victory, favorite players were kept from the cashiers window until the sixth race when their choice, Donna Boorse, returned .00 while taking a nose victory over Mrs. C. L. Cresswells Gro-TJp.
