Endon Makes Bow In VanBerg Colors Fast Son of Challedon Meets NewMan and Gallant Answer At Sportsmans in Sprint SPORTSMANS PARK, Cicero, HI., May 13. Endon, Marion H. VanBergs newly acquired three-year-old colt, by Challedon Hi Chris, one of the best sophomores at the current Sportsmans Park meeting, tops Fridays feature field, the ,000 Paul Gibson Purse, a seven-furlong affair which will be the sixth race on the program. The bay son of Challedon, purchased by VanBerg from Arnold Winick recently, will be making his first start in Fridays feature since coming here frjom Louisville. He will be opposed by such top runners as Grace Kosibas New Man, Merle M. Mitchells Gallant Answer, Willjam Hal Bishops Sky Jeep, Oldehove Stables Bull Hierocles, Locust Lawn Farms Pondering, and Ed A. Bichoff s Dark Embassy. Endon campaigned at Gulfstream Park and other Florida tracks this past winter and invaded the Fair Grounds at New Orleans in quest of a stake victory in the 0,000 Louisiana Derby last March. In his last race, which was on April 22, Endon finished second to Deb Chaser at Gulf-stream Park over a sloppy track. Baldwin to Ride The new VanBerg star will be ridden by Ronnie Baldwin, the leading jockey at the meeting, and will carry 116 pounds. Top-weighted in the field of seven starters is Sky Jeep, who will be asked to tote 120 pounds, including jockey Leslie Wickel. Sky Jeep, in his last start, was third behind Flying Gypsy and Gallant Answer in a seven-furlong event last Monday. Gallant Answer will probably be one of those well backed by the fans in the race, while New Man, who will have the services of Owen Headley, will also come in for his share of supporters. New Man is a double-winner here and in his last effort, as an even money favorite, he won the seven-furlong Willow Springs Purse on May 3. Dark Embassy finished second to Bern Burst in a seven-furlong race on May 7, and Bull Hierocles and Pondering were unplaced in their latest outings. The race has been named in the honor of Paul Gibson, local radio personality and commentator, who will present the winning jockey with a portable radio.
