STEPENMATE, reserved slightly off the pace, moved readily when sent up on the outside, assumed command inside the final furlong and drew out. TO THE FRONT assumed command soon after the start, was kept along the inside and under light restraint while dominating the pace, responded to late pressure but was not able to match strides with the winner. LORD LOUIS was sent up to vie for command before a half mile and pressed the leader under stout urging during the final quarter mile. PINOCCHIO had no mishap. HIERAPOLIS was never prominent. DOM W. dropped out of contention after a half mile and was not persevered with in the late stages. Scratched 1693Q3 Dark Buster, 117. NINTH RACE ABOUT 1 1-16 MILES turf course. OUTLAND worked his way up on the outside, was steadied nearing the far turn, responded when straightened for the drive and closed resolutely to overtake DO-DO inside the final sixteenth and held the latter safe under pressure. DO-DO moved along the inside to assume command before a half mile, opened a commanding lead and appeared to sulk when put to pressure in the late stages. RED CAP passed tiring horses. ATHAPASCAN was. used up forcing the pace. LAVION had no mishap. ELFDEE showed nothing. OMEN was outrun. KNIGHT-AT-ARMS stopped. Overweight Athapascan, 4 pounds. Attendance, 11,588; Total Mutuel Pool, 28,009.
