Threbel, Over and Over Triumph at Fort Miami Former Prevails by Two Lengths, While Latter Gains Neck Victory By W. A. CRUSE Staff Correspondent FORT MIAMI, Maumee, Ohio, May 13. The Toledo Turf Club played host to 1,900 fans here this afternoon under ideal condi- tions for the sport. The track was fast, the sun was warm and bright. The Daily double was made up of a third choice in the opener and a shade better than 2-to-l favorite in the second race. Jockey J. Shoyat and Conrad Heckmans Threbel turned on the speed from the start in the first evert and negotiated the five furlongs in 1 :01 to be a good two lengths in front of Miss Rose Harris Cathoy Valley. He returned a 3.20 win mutuel. Shoyat had him in front at the break and thereafter there was little doubt of the outcome among the fans. J. Smiths Over and Over, an eleven-year-old pomponius gelding, accounted for the second half of the double under jockey Evan Anyon and came from just off the pace of the six furlongs to be a neck in front of P. J. Bradyjs Fair Fille and jockey Henry Manifold. The winner covered six panels in 1 : 14 and rewarded his supporters with a .20 straight return and completed the 4.60 daily double. Clyde Davis Future Star, another aged campaigner, really upset the calculations in the third race. With jockey Henry Ford in the saddle he proved a head the best of W. E. Riggs Moon Boy and returned 9, 2.20 and .60 across the board. The card for Friday, the semi-final day of this 25-day session, will very probably bring out the largest crowd of the meeting for an early week-end program. From all indications the weather will be ideal and, while the card is made up entirely of events for claiming performers, this fact does not take away any of the interest, as the competition will be keen. The best race on the card is the sixth and has been titled the Daily Racing Form. For three-year-olds and older horses which run with a ,000 price tag attached, the setting is six furlongs and there are eight who will try for a part of the 00 purse. ,J. I. Works Refill looms a dangerous adversary in this group. The Maxim gelding and jockey A. Gaither, who will ride him again Friday, were six lengths the best of H. R. Finleys Graces Lady the last tinie out. Gaither and Refill came out of the gate ninth in a 10-h6rse field in that five and one-half furlongs test and, by the j time they were at the eighth pole, had 1 three lengths on Graces Lady and jockey , C. Collins and increased the lead without too much urging thereafter. The time for the race was a worthy 1:07 over the fast , strip and, while the group was of the ,000 and 00 specie, this bunch does not appear any more formidable. . ; : . :
