: : : List Forty-Three Nominations For Crete Inaugural Handicap Next Thursdays Feature at Lincoln Fields Has Drawn Top Sprinters in Midwest CRETE, 111., May 13. When the Lincoln Fields Racing Association throws open the gates of its reconstructed race track at Crete next Thursday for the first time in 12 years, visitors not only will be pleased with the natural scenic beauty and architectural artistry of the plant, but may witness one of the best six-furlong races of the Illinois season. The 0,000 Crete Inaugural Handicap, which will have its 27th running that day, has all the ingredients to make it a spirited sprint throughout. This prospect was revealed today when general manager Peter J. ODonnell announced the list of nominations for the Crete. Among the 43 nominees are stakes winners numbering more than a score, while all of the horses on the list have creditable records of victories at one time or another in this or past seasons.- Although the 1954 season still is young, 28 of the Crete eligibles already have won this year. They-include the 1954 stakes winners. Sunny Dale, Pomace, Sea O Erin, Torch of War, and Mon-Pharo. Forty of the Crete nominees collectively won more than 150 races last year. The three which did not win in 1953 all have won this season. These include Dixi-anas four-year-old filly, Fulvous, who at Churchill Downs recently won for the first time since her juvenile year when she was brilliant in her victories in the Arlington Lassie and Princess Pat Stakes. Quintet Listed It appears that Mr. and Mrs. Allie Reuben, of Toledo, Ohio, who had such a successful season in Chicago last year, will lose no time in again beginning their local foray. They have nominated five of their Hasty House Farm runners for the Crete, namely Pomace, Torch of War, Seaward, Ruhe and Sea O Erin, all stakes winners. Sea O Erin, who beat his stablemate, Hasty Road, in the Prairie State Stakes last year and who has Gulfstream Parks Fountain of Youth Handicap and Keene-lands Manchester Purse to his credit so far this season, is one of the three-year-olds named for the Crete, others that age being Clifford Lusskys Tuosix and James Emerys filly, Cosentina. Cosentina, in turn, is one of the eight fillies and mares among the Crete nominees. Others from the distaff side, besides Fulvous and Buddah Stables good mare, Sunny Dale, winner of the Churchill Downs Handicap this spring, are Mrs. Herbert Herffs Mimi Mine, Fairway Farms Good Call, Walmac Farms Gala Fete, B. W. Landys Betsy T., and Mrs. Martha Milanis Sky Maid. In addition to Gala Fete, trainer Howard Wells also nominated Walmac Farms Vagabond King, winner at Churchill Downs yesterday, and J. S. Bradleys Sun David, while Landy also named Spur On and Buddah Stable made a subscription for Scrutinized. Among other nominees is H. N. Eads Sir Mango, who was somewhat of a local kingpin among last seasons three-year-olds when Native Dancer was not around. He has already won three races this year. Racing secretary L. C.
