VAGABOND KING, well placed from the outset, drifted out at the stretch turn, then responded readily when straightened for the drive and wore down the leaders in the last sixteenth. EVER BRIGHT went to the front at once,, set the pace until inside the stretch but could not hold the winner. SMACKOVER, in hand to the last three-eighths mile, closed strongly but could not overtake EVER BRIGHT. FUTURAMATIC saved ground entering the stretch, made a bold bid, then faltered. REU-A-PEU lacked early foot. BUGLEDRUMS, outrun to the stretch, closed fairly well when sent to the inside for the drive. GREATEST raced wide. OH LEO failed to stay after racing well to the stretch.
