FANFORD broke alertly and was able to retain the1 rail position in the running, turned back the challenge of BEST CONTRACT soon after three furlongs and drew clear under mild urging. BONA REQUEST outfinished BEST CONTRACT. The latter dueled with FANFORD for the Jead along the backstretch and around the turn, then gave way. DARK MUSIC wore down only tired horses.. WINGS OF GOLD pressed the pace into the stretch, disposed of JOLLY MARA to attain a clear lead inside the furlong pole, then lasted over TIME FOR FUN. The latter rallied through the stretch to be wearing down the winner. NEDDIES JONES lacked early speed and closed full of run. DANCE LIGHT rallied insufficiently. DOLL FOOT raced well in the late stages. GOOD TRY was a factor for a half mile and weakened. JOLLY MARA displayed her usual speed to set the pace into the stretch and quit through the final furlong. The latter was hard held while following the pace and lacked a closing surge. SWIFT STEVE held a forward position while under steadying restraint and flattened out when set down for the drive. EFFORTLESS lacked early speed and caught tired horses. NOSTREBOR gave way badly, as did PAT THOMPSON. COPAKE and PRINCE REGENT slopped badly after racing for the early advantage.
