Bob Slater to Defend Speed Crown at Aurora Kansan Among Several Stars Slated to Compete on June 13 AURORA, 111., June 1. Bob Slater, the long, lanky speed merchant from Redfield, Kansas, will defend his newly won na.-tipnal speedways circuit championship, when he competes in the 8th annual IMCA big car auto races, slated for the Aurora Downs half-mile track here, Sunday afternoon, June 13. Slater will drive the Blue Crown Offen-hauser, which the famous speedway champion, Bill Holland, drove to many Eastern AAA dirt track titles and also drove in the IMCA races here two years ago, according to Downs manager Carl Johndahl. The Kansas driver holds lour worlds records now on the books of the International Motor Contest Association. He set a mark of 6:11.17 for IVz miles on a half-mile oval at Salt Lake City, Utah; then hung up marks for 15 and 20 miles during the running of the 50-lap race .at Des Moines, Iowa last spring in which he won the Frank Luptow Memorial trophy, also flat track marks. The Kansan proved that he was at home on a flat or a bank track whenhe went on to hang up a new world mark on the highly banked Belleville Speedway of 1:56. 12 for 2and miles. The 8th annual dirt track classic, which has always been one, of the outstanding sports events of the year in the Fox Valley, is attracting national attention according to inquiries and entries received at the Downs speed headquarters. Slater added his entry to that of Bobby Grim, the Indianapolis youngster and present IMCA point leader; Don Branson of Champaign, 111., in the Hyneman Offy; Chick Edwards of Augusta, Ga.; Chet Wilson of Wichita, Kansas, and Benny Ly-barger of Davenport, Iowa. A field of 25 is expected. Time trials will start at 1:30 and the first of six races at 2:30,
