Laurel Complimented by Japs Interest in International LAUREL, Md., June 1. Joseph Casca-rella, executive vice-president of Laurel, said today the track was complimented by Japans interest in the annual Laurel International race, but that it was too early to make any final decision on entries for the race, which will be run in late October or early November. Japanese racing officials have indicated they would like to enter their four-year-old champion, Hakuryo, in the race, and racing-owner Masaichi Nagata will come to America next month to discuss it. -"Our main interest is to make sure all the entries are first-rate horses, and that no horse will be outclassed," said Casca-rella. "Thus we would want more information about the Japanese horse, but Im sure the Japanese understand this. "John Schapiro, our track president, is in Europe now attending various big races, but before he left we discussed the International race and Japan was mentioned. We agreed we would like, to have a, Japanese entry if it is a good horse." The French-bred, American-owned horse, Worden IT., won last years race. Cascarella said he would like to contact Nagata, by cable before Nagata leaves Japan to make sure the Japanese race official brings all the pertinent information needed. "Our race has won world-wide acceptance," Cascarella said. "We have had entries from Europe and South America and have had feelers from Australia and South Africa as well as Japan."
