Queens Plate Trial No. 2 Offered in Two Divisions King Maple and Queens Own Head Respective Sections at Woodbine By FRANK ARMSTRONG WOODBINE PARK, Toronto, Ont., June 1. Queens Plate candidates will be previewed at Woodbine on Wednesday in Plate Trial No. 2, a run of a mile and 70 yards which is their last competitive performance before the mile and a furlong Guineas gallop on. June 12. Twenty-one survivors remain as prospective starters in 0,000 added Canadian classic which will probably have a gross of 7,000. Plate Trial No. 1 at six furlongs was split in four division, when 36 were named for the entries arid since those races several have run themselves out of elgibility by subsequent starts, not permitted under the conditions of the Queens Plate. It is possible that the classic field will be further reduced after this longest test, but meantime the leading eligibles are on display for the appraisal of the racegoing public who have shown exceptional interest in the impending renewal of the Plate. There was a hopeful thought, at least from the spectators side of the race track that McMacken Stables King Maple and E. P. Taylors Queens Own, the split future choices would be brought together in this Trial, but they were separated by the luck of the draw which brought 11 into the first division and 10 into the second division; King Maple will hold the post of favoritism in the first split, though he tangles with several outstanding contenders of the moment. He must meet Taylors Staff Reporter, a colt who has been showing excellently in training trials, and his stable-mate My Word who has been somewhat less impressive. Bur-Fit Stables Pancho, a fast going second to Queens Own in the sprint is in this split, along with such able runners as Armstrong Bros. Trochanter, J. E. P. Seagrams improved Three Striper and V. J. Sheridans Sunnycourt. Eric Craddocks North Downs Farm is represented by a western bred, Clandeboye, a first-time starter and perhaps an unknown quantity at present. Stable connections declare that the folks may know him better. Queens Own is the head man in Division No. 2 and is expected to answer the critics who have questioned his ability to stay. His principal contention should come from Bur-Fit Stables Collisteo, winner of a sprint trial, Dr. L. H. Applebys Western-bred Hi Laude, runner rup in the same race and Armstrong Bros Heptad who was second to King Maple. Owner Taylor has indi- j cated the greatest respect for these con-! tenders, though with a natural preference for his own. Somewhere among the others there may be an "eagle bird" which may swoopjdan-gerously to declare a presence with leading contenders.
