It was like the calm after a storm following the big turnout at. New England ovals yesterday. To make matters worse, a heavy play by an unidentified bettor in the show pool caused a minus pool of ,372. Cold Jack was installed an odds-on choice and paid .20. Following his five winners yesterday, DeSpirito widened on the local riders with a triple winding up with Cold Jack. His earlier scores came with J. Passarellis Platter ette in the second race and H. H. Stovers Star First in the fourth event. St. Jude took the track in the feature opening a half length advantage over OHogan in the first quarter mile. Boston Reward was next in line a couple of lengths back and a like distance ahead of Cold Jack. OHogan finally reached the leader before making the bend out of the back-stretch and as St. Jude backed up Boston Reward took over the chase. DeSpirito kept urging Cold Jack and the colt was gradually picking up ground to cut the leaders margin to a little better than four lengths as the final furlong marker was reached. Apprentice Ronald Fisher was more than anxious astride OHogan and applied his whip frequently but the Colonel OF colt paid no attention to the pressure and succumbed in the final yards. Time for the six panels was 1:11 with fractions of :22 and :45.
