Taking the track at the start of the Go Between Handicap, S. Mahlon Klines Kaster set a track record and possibly a worlds record for a mile and three furlongs on grass today, stepping the distance in 2:17. The former mark of 2:21 was set by Royal Governor on May 22, while there are no faster turf course records for the distance listed in the American Racing Manual. Augustine Catalano rode .Kaster and was all out at the finish to stave off the closing rush of Lazy F Ranchs Out Point by a head. It was another three and a half lengths back to Mrs. Phil Bei-bers Bicarb, who led A. F. Placks Dead Duck by a half length. His victory netted ,545 of the gross purse of 0,050. The grass course was comparatively much faster than the main track today, being dry and hard while the dirt track was dry, but loose and tiring. Kasters time was two and a fifth seconds faster than Cherokee Rose required in Saturdays Coaching Club American Oaks oh the dirt track. One more turf event, the Frere Jacques Handicap at the same distance, will complete Belmonts experiment with grass racing for this meeting on closing day, June 12. Kaster and Bicarb were both restive in the gate before the start of the Go Between, but Kaster broke running, while Bicarb was backing away at the start, but quickly recovered. As the field went past the stands the first time, Kaster led Ming Yellow and Dead Duck by a narrow margin, extending this to a bit more than a length rounding the first turn. Kaster, Dead Duck and Ming Yellow continued to lead, closely grouped, in the run down the backstretch, with Neji a distant fourth, followed by Out Point, Turgueneff, iCorinthien and Bicarb. Nearing the far turn, Turgueneff made a brisk bid along the inside rail that carried him into third place, while Corinthien also moved up rapidly on the outside. Ming Yellow stopped abruptly turning for home, while Neji seemed in difficulty. Kaster cut the corner turning for home, while Out Point worked his way between horses to challenge and steadily cut the winners margin, but ran out of ground. Bicarb also finished very fast, while Dead Duck held on willingly. Neji made a promising bid on the final turn, but was blocked, while Turgueneff hung badly and Corinthien lost considerable ground, t Jockey Angel Valenzuela steered Rock-iville Farms Idontknow to the longest-priced victory of the season in the fourth race. The Alquest gelding paid 33.50, 2.60 and 3.00 across the board after beating two other longshots, Knights Hill and Ham Hocks at seven furlongs in 1:27. Immediately after this race, Maine I Chance Farms Kentucky Oaks winner, Fascinator, came on the track for a mile I workout. With a heavy boy in the saddle and running in the deeper going alont the rail all the way, Fascinator was clocked in 1AZVs after getting the fractions in :23, :36, A8V5, 1:01 and l:14y5. She tired a bit through the stretch. Fascinator is eligible ,tq , meet older mares in the Top Flight t Handicap at a mile and a sixteenth next Wednesday and won the Columbiana against her elders at Hialeah last winter, then finished unplaced in the longer Black Helen. She is also eligible to the Delaware and Monmouth Oaks later in the month.
