Eight Youngsters Clash In ThistleDown Offering Snubbed, Cleyer Defense, Deck Cherry, Fussy Lady Test Speed THISTLEDOWN, Warrensville, Ohio, June 2. A field of eight of the better two-year-olds on the grounds will meet at five furlongs in the featured Eddie Bracken Purse here on Thursday. The comedy star will be in the winners circle following the race. He is currently playing in a Cleveland theater this week. The feature will line up as follows: Maurice Hamars Snubbed, E. W. Haynes Guided King, Mrs. Arthur Hullcoats Clever Defense, Arthur Hockebberrys Deb Talk, E. H. Lanes Deck Cherry, Mrs. Fred Sharpe and R. Mullens Queens Hope, C. B. Fischbachs Fussy Lady and Samuel C. Dykes Sports Play. Snubbed, a good-looking son of Endeavour U. who was bred by Mrs. M. E. Person, will be .seeking his second tally of the season. His winning race was chalked up in April while at Gulf stream Park wnen racing ior uieveianaer TinKnam Veale U. He defeated Unfaltering by three parts of a length in the excellent time of :53, which is only three-fifths of a second over the track record. Before that, Snubbed was second to Rosemere Gold, a speedy Florida-bred, in his racing debut. Deck Cherry, a gelded son of Top Deck Cheroplay who was bred by his owner, won a quarter-mile sprint at the Fair Grounds in New Orleans during the past winter. With Jockey Ronnie Baldwin in the irons, the Lane colorbearer bested Florson by two lengths in :23 over the fast strip. Clever Defense won his last at Pimlico, which was only the second start in his career. The Whirling Fox Pay In Advance colt nosed out Evening Ray in a closely contested race all the way. He was fourth in his initial outing, also at Pimlico, showing good early speed and only giving way in the stretch to be beaten two and a half lengths. Queens Hope and Fussy Lady were also winners during the Crescent City meeting. Queens Hope paid one of the longer prices of the meeting when the daughter of Ni-zami reached the wire a length in front of Gunrod and paid a tidy 1.80. Fussy Lady scored early in January and was,second before that in her racing debut. The daughter of Eternal Bull Flags Away was bred by Allen T. Simmons of nearby Akron, Ohio.
