I N. Y., June 12. Charging through the stretch with grim determination, King Ranchs High Gun wore down C. V. Whitneys valiant little Fisherman to win the eighty-sixth Belmont Stakes by a neck today. Five lengths farther back came Mrs. Walter H. Hoffman, Jr.s Limelight, who led Greentree Stables Palm Tree another five lengths. Robert S. Lytles Correlation, the favorite with the crowd of 36,482, was a weary fifth, "another two and one-half lengths off the board, after being close to the place while racing on the rail for a mile. Eric Guerin gave the winner a heady and powerful ride. Returns .90 Mutuel Second choice in the wagering, coupled with the filly Riverina, High Gun paid .90, .20 and .30 across the board.. The big son of Heliopolis Rocket Gun, by Brazado, who had won the first stakes of his career in last Saturdays Peter Pan Handicap, stepped the mile and one-half in 2:30, the slowest Belmont since Assault won it in the same time in 1946, over a fast track that was, however, not quite as fast as yesterday. Ciderman Disqualified The HBPA Dinner Purse, one of the better offerings on the half-holiday card today, brought about a disqualification when Mrs. Lottie Wolfs Ciderman, ridden by Sammy Williams, was set back to fourth after crossing the field after the start of the five-furlong dash. Ciderman reached the finish with a two-length margin after his bad behavior, running the dash, distance over the firm footing in :59. Henry Forrests Spy Lady, handled by Lawrence Hansman, was awarded major honors after the stewards acted against Ciderman and she was three and one-half lengths before Duntreath Farms Fleet Path.
