Full Flight Takes Leonard Richards1 Red Ha nnigan Gives Way in Stretch Run Higley Has Wheatley Colt Length and Half to Good; 8,690 Purse to Winner By PALMER HEAGERTY Staff Correspondent DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., Juno 12. Forging to the front in the vicinity of the sixteenth pole, Wheatley Stables Full Flight this afternoon scored a convincing victory over Woodley Lane Farms Red Hannigan in the seventeenth running of the Leonard Richards Stakes. The two were separated by a length and one-half, with Howell E. Jacksons Chaeau six lengths farther back in third position. The victorious son of Ambiorix, second to Chevation in last weeks Kent, joined the ever-growing list of three-year-old stakes winners by covering a mile and a furlong in 1:50 under veteran Jess Higley. In a wide open betting affair. Full Flight went postward as a co-favorite with Greentree Stables disappointing Diving Board, who wound up seventh in the 10-horse field. Full Flights straight price was .00. Full Flight has raced with consistency throughout the year, his best efforts coming in his last two races, the Kent having been preceded by a fourth in the Jersey Stakes. Todays efforts on the part of Full Flight netted a purse return of 8,690 and sent his seasonal earnings to 0,375. Menemsha Assumes Command Menemsha, from the locally-owned Christiana Stable, flattered his backers briefly in the early running, enjoying a four-length lead going into the backstretch. He had been displaced before the next quarter had been completed, however, giving way to Red Hannigan and dropped back steadily thereafter. Red Hannigan increased his lead without difficulty on the turn as Full Flight commenced his rally from the outside and moved from sixth, to third place. Higley wentJo work on Full" Flight entering the stretch, only to have the bay colt lug in behind Red Hannigan. Once taken out and steadied, Full Flight proved a willing worker to do away with Red Hannigan inside the sixteenth pole.
