i.i ... MMMlN j . Lincoln Fields Notebook Four Co-Holders of Time Record At Crete Track Restore Memories I By J. J. MURPHY ; J LINCOLN FIELDS, Crete, HI., June 12. When horses were running a mile and a furlong in well over two minutes here during the muddy track period, we noted that the track record lor the distance was 1:50. However, we were particularly interested i.i ... hi the four co-holders of the mark. They are Sir Harry, Golden MMMlN Prince Prince, Lady Lady Broad-t : : Prince Prince, Lady Lady Broadcast, and Rushaway, and they brought back memories in that we were fairly well acquainted with the exploits of all four. We saw Siry Harry and Golden Prince each win a Coffroth Handicap at Tijuana when that was the richest race in the world; we recall Rushawys great performances in winning two derbys on consecutive days at different tracks; and we can never forget Lady Broadcast, who was one of the greatest distance mares of all time. A A Sir Harry was owned by Joseph Seagram,, the Canadian distiller; Golden Prince, by Harry Unna, who is still training thoroughbreds on the West Coast; Rushaway, by Canadian Al Tarn, ,who was jockey Johnny Longdens father-in-law; and Lady Broadcast, by Rogers Caldwell and later by Herbert M. Woolf . John Goode, father of Jack Goode, Lincoln Fields steward, trained Lady Broadcast. Thanks to their Coffroth successes, Golden Prince, who started 135 times in his career, and Sir Harry each earned over 00,000. The others never reached that amount. A The popular four-year-old Sir Mango is "definite" for next Saturdays 0,000 added Lincoln Handicap. The steady-going son of Gilded Knight went through a good mile and eighth trial here this morning with owner Harry N. Eads, who arrived from Dayton, Ohio, looking on Trainer Clyde Troutt is expected to arrive at Arlington Park Monday with a large band, one of which is Royal Bay Gem, who as a three-year-old was a solid contender for the Kentucky Derby, and took the Peabody J Memorial. The son of Royal Gem H. races for Mrs. Eugene Constantin, Jr., and is expected k be a starter in the Arlington Handicap. Accompanying Royal Bay Gem will be several candidates for the Arlington Futurity and a couple of nominees for the Arlington Lassie. Jockey Jimmy Combest will do the riding for the stable. AAA Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Schmidt are holding their annual barbecue and dance "at their North Shore home, near Arlington Park, Saturday evening, June 26. Over 300 of their race track friends attended last year. . . . Some of the boys are trying to arrange an automobile race from Lincoln Fields to Arlington Park between Larry Bogenschutz and Dave Feldman. . . . Trainer Harry Trotsek has a rather unusual lucky token. It is a diamond-shapedpiece of leather cut from the blinkers of Hasty Road prior to the running of the Preakness. Trotsei claims that Hasty Road runs a little better if he can just catch a glimpse of his opposition, whereas if he races without the hood, he sees too much. The Reubens have their own gem in Hasty Road, and it is claimed they have a couple of more jewels in their young racing stock coming up. AAA The three-year-old. Dear Doctor, owned by Maury and Roy Saffir, Chipago meat packers, is starting to pay dividends. Purchased for ,200 as a yearling, he did not get to the post as a two-year-old, but has won his only two races this year. . . . Tour-aine, a recent victor here, is the first of the get of the stallion Roi Rouge to become a winner. She was bred by L. J. Hollen-bach, Sr., half owner of the Golden Maxim Stable, in whose silks she races. Clayton Moore is the other partner in the stable. Mr. Hollenbach has been visiting. . . . Mrs. Carl Blair purchased Nice Try from W. H. Bishop. . . . Court Trad, Depth Tread, Dutch Darling and Destino Son arrived at Washington Park from Kentucky in charge of trainer W. W. Morrow. AAA The establishment of a teevlision set in the stewards room here is an innovation. A cable has been strung from the room in which the photos of the races are developed and strung to the stewards quarters on the roof, thereby saving the officials the long trip downstairs to view the pictures following an inquiry. . . . Frank Mandel, former member of the Illinois Racing Board, who recently returned from an extended trip abroad, was a visitor Friday in company with Graham Smith, vice-president of Arlington Park. . . . Charlton Clay, owner and breeder of the fleet filly, Lea Lane was in from Paris, Ky to view the miss in action in the Miss America Stakes Saturday. . . . F. E. McDohnel has resigned as trainer for Texas turfman G. Rollie White after having been on the job for 10 years. Four of the thoroughbreds, namely Trim Destiny, Lu Blitzer, Helens Lou, and Willmger, will be sent to White Farm at Brady, Texas, while another quartet, Black Gallant, Lucky William, Royal Charge, and Anna Charge, will be shipped to Rockingham Park in charge of Cecil Locklear.
