Best Air was winning for the second time this season and while in Maryland was racing against the likes of Eaton-town, Dinner Winner, and Ocean Breeze. Cross Ring was responsible for the early pace in the feature and was closely followed by The Veep and Big Money, who ran as part of the Lloyd Gentry-trained entry along with Shag Tails. They were made the favorites in the race and both were out of the money. The field bunched up as they neared the far turn and there was considerable crowding with Wolf Gal and Bull Skin getting the worst of it. The lightly weighted Wolf Gal was in a menacing position along the rail when her rider, Fred Ryan; had to take her up and she dropped far back. On the turn, -Best Air moved up with a tremendous burst of speed and Shamrock was also moving along rapidly. Shag Tails on the outside also improved his position somewhat on the bend. Cross Ring continued to lead by a half length at the furlong station, but was beginning to shorten stride somewhat. Best Air moved into the runner-up spot just inside the seventy yard pole and in the final strides to the wire collared the pacemaster and then moved to the fore. Best Air collected ,875 and she carried 110 pounds. A. H. "Abe" Livingstones Two by Sea scored a game head tally over Double F Stables Dilly Whilly in the fifth race. The heavily favored Bone Dry was third another three parts of a length back at the . end of the mile and one-sixteenth. Two by Sea paid 4.80 and was timed in 1:47 flat over the fast strip. Dilly Whilly came on again gamely in final sixteenth of a mile and jockey Borge-menke astride the winner had to ride a powerful race to keep the daughter of Coastal Traffic in front. Bone Dry, although making up some ground through the stretch, could not get to the top pair. Diablo was along to collect fourth money.
