-4 J Collisteo Scores Upset In 95th Queens Plate Whips Queens Own by Head, as Favored King Maple Runs Third By JACK AYERS Staff Correspondent WOODBINE PARK, Toronto, Ontario, June 12. Collisteo, carrying the banner of the Bur-Fit Stable, owned by Walter Fitzgerald and H. C. "Pete" Burton, and under a sparkling ride from jockey Chris Rogers, became the ninety-fifth winner of the Queens Plate here this afternoon. The dusky-coated three-year-old son of Filisteo and Colleen Pat came to the end of the nine-furlong journey showing a head in advance of E. P. Taylors Queens Own, who led the McMacken Stables odds-on choice, King Maple, by three and threes quarter lengths. Pancho, another Bur-Fit Stable colorbearer, was fourth. Collisteo completed his task in 1:52, which equaled Continued on Page Three Collisteo Scores Upset In 95th Queens Plate Whips Queens Own by Head, as Fayored King Maple Runs Third Continued from Page Ons the time record for the event: The Bur-Fife entry paid 4.20, as the talent had eyes only for King Maple and the E. P. Taylor entry of Queens Own and Staff Reporter. Incidentally, like Fitzgerald and Burton, jockey Rogers in a native of Ahmilton, Ont. When the break came in the Plate, Rogers took a slight hold of his mount into the clubhouse turn in third position to Staff Reporter and Welcome Home. He moved into second place to the same Staff Reporter midway of the back lane and, on reaching the bend, drove to the fore. After opening up a two-length lead approaching the last furlong, Rogers began pumping on his mount and in a furious drive outfin-ished Queens Own at the finish marker. Queens Own, after being eased back going to the first bend, moved into second position to Collisteo at the head of the home lane, responded gamely to Clayton Browns left-handed whipping but just could not run down the winner. As for King Maple, he lacked racing room around the first elbow, was forced to weave his way between horses much of the trip, then closed gallantly when clear in the last furlong. This was jockey Rogers third successful Queens Plate mount and his effort today aboard Collisteo was a masterpiece. Directly after the running of the Dominions top racing classic, the Right Honorable Vincent Massey, Governor-General of Canada, who was representing Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth n., presented the winning owner with the Queens Plate. The ceremonies were carried out from the floral horseshoe in the infield. The winning trainer and jockey were also presented with silver trays.
