: American Tennis Queens Swamp British, 6 to 0 Capture Wightman Cup Series x For Eighteenth Straight Time By ROBERT MUSEL United Pressr Sports Writer WIMBLEDON, England, June 12. Americas women tennis terrors; praised as the best Wightman Cup team ever to visit Britain, won the big silver trophy today for the eighteenth time by sweeping the final three singles matches to complete a 6-6 rout. Louise Brough of Beverly Hills, Califs U. S. champion Maureen "Little Mo" Connolly of San Diego, Calif., and Doris Hart of Coral Gables, Fla., won their singles contests today before rain forced cancellation of the scheduled wind-up doubles match. It was the first time since the competition was inaugurated in 1923 that all seven matches could not be played. The.U. S. stars, who started play with a 3-0 lead carried over from the two singles and one doubles triumphs of Friday, now have beaten Britains best women players 22 times in the 26-match series. The British have not won since 1930, the last three matches having been shutout victories for the Americans. In a program interrupted frequently by intermittent rain, Miss Brough first defeated 19-year-old Angela Buxton, 8-6, 6-2, to provide the U. S. with an insurmountable 4-0 lead. Miss Connolly then disposed of Ann Shilcock, 6-2, 6-2, and Miss Hart defeated Helen Fletcher, 6-1, 6-8, 6-2. When Miss Hart dropped the second set it marked the first time a British girl had won a set in these matches since 1952. This was the seventh time the Americans had beaten the British by a shutout in the nine matches since World War II.
