Long Islands oldest active race track opens a 24-day meeting on Monday with the 5,-000 Queens County Handicap at a mile and a sixteenth as the first of 15 stakes to be decided through July 10. Eleven of the Aqueduct stakes are on the flat, highlighted by three 0,000-added events, the Dwyer and Brooklyn Handicap at a mile and a quarter on July 3 and 10, and the seyen-furlong Carter Handicap on July 5. A new stake, the 5,000 Distaff Handicap, for fillies and mares at seven furlongs, will be run on June 28. The Queens County Jockey Club has effected some improvements for this meeting, including an additional 5,000 feet of clubhouse space, which will for the first time permit selling tickets and daily double combinations on the mezzanine. Track superintendent Lennie Litwak has also constructed a new lake at the southern end of the infield, complete with a landscaped island. The backstretch has not been neglected in the improvements, ith the construction of two motel-type dormitories and the completion of the fire-proofing program. This years Aqueduct opening coincides with Flag Day, and the inaugural ceremonies will be conducted with the cooperation of a 50-mari detachment from the near-by 69th Anti-Aircraft Battery, which will raise the colors to the strains of Maj. Francis Sutherlands-7th Regiment band. and Find Carries 122 A field of 14, headed by Alfred G. Van-derbilts Find with 122 pounds, has been named for the Queens County. The son of Discovery comes from a disappointing effort in the Suburban, after being narrowly beaten by Wise Margin in the Massachusetts Handicap. Brookmeade Stables Capeador, who is second highweight with 119 pounds, and will have the services of Eddie Arcaro, is i sure to be one of the choices in an open; race. The son of Bull Lea won the Thomas J. Healey Handicap at Garden State last out, beating Golden Gloves and Bassanio, and has many other good races to his credit this year. Ogden Phipps Bassanio, who might be favored here under 110 pounds, finished second in the Suburban with 106, then came back to win a race at a mile and a sixteenth on Thursday, carrying 116. Sidney Cole will ride the improved son of Bimelech. Joe W. Browns Matagorda, 111, also finished in front of Find in the Suburban, though finishing seventh, and came back to win at Mondays distance on June 4. Dick McLaughlin will ride the son of Brown King. Saga Stables Flaunt, an Aqueduct specialist, finished second to Matagorda in that race and is back here with a feathery 105 pounds. Mandingo Third in Suburban , Mrs. H. P. Christiansens Mandingo, who finished third in the Suburban, under 106 pounds, gets in here with 112, a shift of six pounds for more than eight lengths. J. W. Nizleks Count Cain, who stopped back to last in the Suburban after leading for a little more than a half mile, is in here with 105. Another Queens County candidate who , raced fairly well in the Suburban is Cain Hoy Stables Armageddon, who finished sixth after setting or forcing the pace for a mile, is in with 109 pounds, the same package he carried at Belmont, where he had won his two previous starts. The shorter distance of the Queens County will probably help the Alsab five-year-old considerably Hank Moreno will ride the one-eyed horse. The contention in this highly competitive test doesnt stop here. Saxon Stables Invigorator, who showed considerable class at two and three, indicated some return to form when finishing a close second to South Point on Memorial Day, while W. Haggin Perrys Domquil was almost two lengths away. Ted Atkinson will ride Invigorator at 114 pounds, while Jim Nichols will be on DomquiT at as close to 109 as he can melt. The field is completed by C. V. Whitneys Cold Command, 118; F. C. Rand, Jr.s Begorra, 110; D. J. Schneiders Elixir, 108, and Abe Levinsons Press, 102 pounds. Cold Command is an erratic sort, but has the intrinsic class to be a factor on his best form. Begorra appears to have lost his good form, and the same is true of Elixir and Press. As an extra-added attraction, George D. Wideners Evening Out, queen of the 1951 juveniles fillies and winner of her only Continued on Page Forty-Nine Aqueduct Scene of New York Sport for Next 24 Days Continued from Page Seven start this year at Belmont Park, is returning to action against a dozen of her age and sex in the Regal Lilly Purse. The husky daughter of Shut Out has been training splendidly since her recent mishap, in which she kicked through a screen door, but is meeting some sharp fillies in King Ranchs On Your Own, Mrs. John D. Hertz Happy Mood and C.T. Chenerys Talora, to name only three. "Eddie Arcaro will ride Evening Out.
