Inaugurate Night Stock Car Events at Raceway Sunday More than 100 stock car drivers are expected to make their night racing debuts for this season Sunday night at Raceway Park, 130th and Ashland Ave., with Bryant Tucker of Oak Park and Bud Koehler of Blue Island, rated top favorites. Night racing under lights get under way Sunday and will continue on Sunday, Wednesday and Saturday nights until about Labor Day. Pete Jenin, co-promoter, reports that the pit area has been enlarged • 30 per cent to accommodate the huge fields of entries currently taking part in the racing meets. Last Sunday, 126 automobiles overflowed the pit area out into the customer parking lot. Of these, 85 took qualifying trials and participated in at least one race. The huge field of entries saw 22 drivers competing in each of the three of the four 10-lap heat races and 32 cars in the 20-lap semi-final or consolation race, attempting to earn one of the 28 starting spots in the 25 -lap feature race. Tucker, the 1953 season champion who stopped Koehlers winning streak short of the modern Raceway record of four straight wins, even though six other drivers — including Koehler, had faster cars Sunday, will be back seeking a second win. New cars entered for the first time this season will include a 1953" Cadillac rdriven by A. J. Janotto, a new 1955 Oldsmobile for Dick Bell, a 1949 Buick for Rich Sut-kus, and a 1950 Mercury for Irv Janicki. Harry Robson will take the wheel of Dick Collins car. With the return of Hal Ruyle of St. Louis and Tom Anthony of Chicago, all top 10 rated drivers from last year will be in action Sunday night, including Bob Williams, Tom Cox, Dennis Rubino and Ted Janecyk.
