Sand Fly Annexes Ascot Dash Beating Moose Eye Todays Simmons Purse* Lures Seven Experienced Sprinters By. J. R. BATTY *; Staff Correspondent ASCOT PARK, Cuyahoga Falls, O., May 4 — Sand Fly, a six-year-old gelded son of Errard — Cotton Candy, came away from the gate in full stride at the start of the fourth race-today and continued to show speed until the end of this dash of six arid a half furlongs, downing Moose Eye by a length. Third position went to Beloved Miss, who was another two and a quarter lengths away. By riding Sand Fly to victory, jockey Owen Headley tied jockey Floyd for riding honors at the meeting. Green rode the winner of the first race on the program. Each lias piloted 18 victors at the meeting. Sand Fly, who broke to disadvantage in his previous outing, toured the distance over a fast strip in _1:22. He returned 0.80 to backers among an estimated crowd of 5,500. , Sand Fly, pressed the pace set by Moose Eye until midway of the final turn, taking command when called upon, the winner gradually drew clear under punishment through the final stages. Allen T. Simmons, one of Akrons leading citizens and a prominent owner and breeder of thoroughbreds, maintaining ex-1 pansive Idle Hour Farm near Lexington, Ky., is honored here tomorrow. The fea- tured race has been titled the Allen T. Simmons. One race is designated the Blue Swords, named for the horse regarded by •Simmons as the best horse he ever owned. Another contest if captioned the Station WADC, honoring the radio station he owns and operates in Akron. The Allen T. Simmons purse is an al-lownce race in which seven well experienced sprinters are entered to match strides at six and a half furlongs for a purse f ,600. It will be the sixth race on the cards. Entered to provide the sport in this dash are Gold Leaf, Rozs Sun Something, Ziggity, Flying Trinity, Fleet Cross and Mor-Snoozey. Mor-Snoozey, owned by B. L. McCum-ber, closed with a belated rush to be third on Monday and could improve off of that effort. Flying Trinity was fourth, only a neck away from Mor-Snoozy and figures to get some portion of this purse. Ziggity won here opening day by a wide margin and was later deprived of the purse by the stewards. After being idle for a motnh Ziggity appeared short of peak condition when fourth several days .ago.
