BUY WHY moved up to challenge HOBAD after going a half mile and, drawing out nearing the stertch turn, saved ground in the stretch and was hand ridden to hold CHICLE II. safe. The latter responded well in the last quarter and was gaining on the winner. GRAND . JUROR trailed to the last quarter, then came fast in the middle of the track. BARBAREBA was in close quarters after going a quarter and raced well. HOBAD was used up in the first six furlongs and had little left. NO SKIS was closest to ROSE OF GREY while the latter was making the pace and, moving to take command when straightened out for home, had enough left to hold SWEET KATHIE. The latter was never too far away and, coming steadily through the stretch, was gaining. FROM AFAR, under restraint early, made a strong move after leaving the backstretch, but lost ground on the final turn and was unable to get up. KANGASU went evenly. FLOATING CLOWN was never a threat. ROSE OF GREY tired badly in the stretch. Scratched— 40922 Brother Harold, 114; 47238 Live Bait, 114; 468403 Dont Orest, 114. From Afar claimed by Grace Kosiba. NINTH RACE SUBSTITUTE DECLARED OFF.
