STANDEE raced GUSTO into defeat to take command before going a half mile and steadily increased his advantage thereafter, winning with speed in reserve. BARTADOR, slow to gain best stride, drifted out slightly when punished during the stretch run and was unable to seriously endanger the top one. GOLDEN ARIA, forced to take up slightly when impeded near the furlong marker, finished willingly when clear. SIR SIDNEY tired. GUSTO swerved repeatedly during the stretch run while tiring. KINGS PARK was unable to keep up. THRUST was through after a half mile. LECOUNT failed to stay. FERD never- was prominent. ASTRONAUT began poorly and never threatened. COUNT MAR stumbled leaving the gate and unseated his rider. Following the running, the stewards viewed the patrol films, but found no evidence of a foul. Byer; bred by E. A. Christmas. IN GATE-1:54. OFF AT 1:54 EASTERN DAYLIGHT TIME. Start good. Won driving; second and third the same. NEW VENTURE, unhurried when outrun early, came to the outside to gain closer contention leaving the final turn, swerved sharply while going to the front at the furlong marker, but continued on gamely when straightened to outlast PHANTOM SONG. The latter, forced to take up slightly when the winner veered to the inside entering the stretch, recovered gamely and finished with good energy. PERMAN saved ground along the rail while within striking distance of the leaders, but failed to respond sufficiently when set down for the ultimate test. MUHARRAM, forced to be steadied when in close quarters during the run down the backstretch, moved up menacingly entering the stretch, then weakened. DEEP RIVER gave way after five furlongs. LEE CEE raced wide. KINDA ROUGH retired steadily from a rapid start. TEDS JEEP was unable to keep up. GREEK HOPE stumbled slightly immediately after the start and trailed throughout. TIPPETYWITCH steadily improved his position on the outside to take command when ready nearing the furlong marker, then gradually drew clear when subjected to brisk urging. PORT WINDSOR assumed a lengthy lead soon after the start, relinquished command to the winner entering the stretch and, though unable to withstand the latter during the . late stages, held on willingly to easily prevail ,over the others. LEONGS came out to the middle of the track for the drive, but under punishment was not good enough. STEVIES PAL, sluggish early, lacked the necessary rally. WEE WAH, rank at the post, moved up menacingly leaving the final turn, then weakened. SHARP ABBEY and ROYAL CASTLE never were dangerous. UNREST-raced forwardly placed to the far turn, then faded. SEARCHING was reserved back of the early leaders, responded readily when shaken to gain command inside the stretch, then gamely withstood PEPPERMINT KID. The latter, outrun early, came out to the middle of the track for the drive and steadily was wearing down the top one. DEEPDALE, a sharp factor from the start, forged to the front entering the stretch, then held on willingly in a good effort. GOULASH, away fastest, raced forwardly placed to the furlong marker, but tired when punished thereafter and was unable to cope with the leaders. PEIGNOIR had no apparent mishap. HILARIOUS forged to the front along the rail immediately after the start, held sway to the stretch under clever rating and, though tiring slightly during the late stages, had enough left to prevail over MR. TURF. The latter raced in closest pursuit of the winner from the start, responded gamely when set down for the drive and closed with good energy in a sharp effort. BY JEEPERS closed with a belated burst of speed and perhaps would prefer a longer distance. BRISUET - tried to drift out slightly around the turn, then lacked a convincing rally. GOLD BOX, away alertly, was reserved JL back of the early leaders, came fast when guided to the outside to take command with a rush nearing the furlong marker and steadily increased his advantage, winning as his rider pleased. DARK RULER, always within striking distance, drifted out slightly while improving his position on the final turn, continued on the outside to attain the runner-up position entering the stretch, but was unable to seriously endanger the winner when brisWy ridden through the late stages. BLUE QUEST, slow to gain best stride, worked his way forward to the stretch, but lacked a convincing rally. WESTWARD HO, shuffled back slightly soon after the start, came out for the drive, but under stern punishment was not good enough. BUNNYS BABE saved ground along the inner rail while racing forwardly placed to the stretch, then tired. HARTSVILLE never was formidable. EVER BEST was through after three furlongs. DIVING BOARD, never far removed from the early leaders, recovered gamely after being forced to take up slightly when in close quarters nearing the three-furlong marker and again at the head of the stretch, responded readily when shaken for the stretch run and, after gaining command during the concluding strides, outfinished ICARIAN. The latter, shuffled back slightly on the final turn, secured ample racing room next to the inner rail for the stretch run and closed determinedly, just missing. BEGORRA, forwardly placed from the beginning while on the outside, moved up boldly in the -middle of the track to reach near even terms for the lead at the furlong marker, then continued on gamely notwithstand he was unable to be subjected to punishment as his rider lost his whip early in the running. PAPER TIGER forged between horses to take command momentarily entering the stretch, then weakened. MEL LEAVITT tired. GALDAR, forced to take up sharply when in close quarters soon after the start, was unable to recover. DOOR PRIZE was through after six furlongs. ELIXIR gave way after a half-mile.
