, Stakes Candidates Drill For Pending Engagements Nashua, Palm Tree,Southarlington Are Given Conditioning Exercises BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., June 18. S e v e r a 1 candidates for next weeks stakes events at Aqueduct turned in interesting moves here at Belmont Park this morning. Two of Greentree Stables candidates for Saturdays nine-furlong Edgemere Handicap were seen in seven-furlong spins. Palm Tree, always a good work horse, sped the distance in 1:26, going along evenly, while Maharajah was under a light hold as he was clocked in 1:29, just breezing. J. Ross Clark JXs speedy Southarlington went a handy mile in 1:40 for the Edge-mere, being eased a bit at the end after getting the fractions in :48, 1:13 and 1:27. Alfred G. Vanderbilts Sometime Thing, who may be the favorite in Mondays Distaff Handicap, stepped a nimble five furlongs in 1:00 from the gate. Incidentally, Mrs. John W. Hanes Queens Beeches went six furlongs from the gate in 1:15 Thursday morning as a final prep for her American debut in the Distaff. Over on the deep and dead training track, Vanderbilts Social Outcast went a nice mile in 1:44, with fractions of :53 and 1:18. He is an Edgemere eligible. Eleonora Sears French filly, Soya, who made a rather impressive debut here, turned in a mile in 1 :44 on the training track and seems ready for a winning race. Over at Aqueduct, Belair Studs mighty Nashua breezed five furlongs in 1:04, which, was about as slow as he could travel without being thrown down. Wheatley Stables Magneto, High Voltages little sister, flashed a burst of speed when sent three panels in :34. Nashua, of course, will next be seen in the Dwyer Stakes on July 2, while Magneto is -eligible to the Astoria on June 29. Over at Jamaica, High Tide Stables vastly improved Fabulist, who is eligible to the Edgemere and won the Queens County Cap last out, breezed a slow six furlongs in 1:21, merely indicating that he retains his health.
