Notes from Along the Banks of Stoner Creek By LE SANCY PARIS, Ky., June 18. The Belmont Stakes is Americas premier test of speed and stamina and it was fitting that it was in this race that Count Fleet reached the pinnacle of his track career, winning the mile and one-half test by 25 lengths in stakes-record time of 2:28. The victory made him Americas sixth Triple Crown winner as previously he had scored with ease in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness. Significantly, Count Fleets best offspring also were at- their peaks on Belmont day and for both Counterpoint arid One Count their victories in the Belmont were largely responsible for their gaining "Horse-of-the-Year" honors. Their achieving this recognition as did their sire gave Count Fleet the distinction of being the only Triple Crown winner to sire two "Horses-of-the-Year." Again -this year, the Count Fleets made a fine showing in the Belmont. His sons Blazing Count and Portersville finished second and third to the eastern champion Nashua. The Count Fleets fit perfectly into the scheme of American racing. They not only do well in our Triple Crown events, but also as two-year-olds and as handicappers. Count Fleet, himself, was weighted at 132 pounds by the late John B. Campbell in the Experimental Handicap. This is the highest assignment ever made in the annual rating of two-year-olds. jt This summer at the Keeneland sales, the Stoner Creek Stud consignment will include the only two Count Fleet colts to be offered. One is out of Lydia, a half-sister of Triple Crown winner War Admiral; the other is out of the brilliant Misty Isle. Mrs. Hertz also will sell two of the three Count Fleet fillies in the sale. One is a full sister of 1 Blazing Count.
