HIGH LAMA, well placed from the start, responded to energetic handling during the stretch, run, disposed of MELODY AIR and held CHIPAWOOD safe. The latter, away sluggisly, moved up steadily after the start, closed determinedly when set down in the drive but could not overtake the top one. MELODY AIR took an early lead, set the pace until nearuig the finish, then faltered. MARTIAL SONG, forced to race wide to the stretch, closed willingly but could" not reach the leaders. PETITE LASSIE gave a good performance and may have needed the race. COLUMBUS BOUND was unable to better his position when set down in the drive. WARM ACE was never prominent and had no mishap. SILENCE tired after displaying early foot. DR. ALEX began slowly. SMART EVE showed nothing. R U THERE had brief speed but failed to stay. GREATOAK FLARE, showing sudden improvement, bore to the inside after the start, took command before entering the backstretch and made the pace under steady rating, responded readily when set down in the drive and lasted to hold AVENIDA but won with little left. The latter, outrun to the last three-eighths mile, closed strongly under punishment but could not overtake the top one. STARBOROUGH, caught in the crowding after the break, recovered under good handling and raced well to the stretch, bore in badly during the drive and could not be persevered with in the final furlong. BILLCELLA roughed after the start, held on well in a good effort. FIFTY CARAT was unable to reach the leaders when hard ridden through the stretch. BRAMBLE SUN could not keep up. GEOFFREY G. made a good bid in the early stretch, then failed to stay when caught in close quarters. FACES EAST raced wide. GRANDAD tired after racing forwardly placed to the stretch. GEM PATH, away sluggishly and outrun to the stretch, was sent to the middle of the track for the drive and, responding to brisk urging, wore down the leaders in the last sixteenth. RAY N JAY, a sharp factor from the start, reached the lead when sent up on the inside for the stretch run but could not hold the winner FRALUXE lacked early foot but finished strongly. Wlde enterin9 the stretch, could not get to the leaders when straightened for the drive: KENTUCKIAN took command at once, made the pace to the stretch while engaging COTEAUX BOY, but had nothing left for the drive. HERMAN L failed to rally after being crowded at the stretch turn. SMASHER, outrun early, tired after suffering interference at the final turn. A GEM tired after racing prominently to the stretch. COUNTESS DRUM tired after showing early speed. NEPAL began slowly and raced far back throughout. KNIGHTS REWARD gradually worked way forward to the stretch, lost ground when sent around horses at the turn, then assumed command from TRIP LIGHTLY and drew clear while under a steady hand ride. The latter, a sharp factor from the start, reached the lead between calls after entering the stretch but was unableto withstand KNIGHTS REWARD, although much the best of the others. FOXIE JEANIE went to the front early, set the pace to the stretch but had nothing left for the drive. SECOND AVENUE lacked early foot and was never dangerous.
