The Primer is the first of 15 stakes that will be decided during the 36-day session and these fixtures include the time-honored Arlington Classic and the Arlington Handicap, both of which are expected to gross about 60,000. The Arlington Lassie and the Futurity are the two other races which will amount to over 00,000; the filly race gross being estimated at 05,000 and the Futurity for which 193 are still eligible, is expected to total 50,000. Of the total of ,455,000 to be distributed in purses, 05,000 of that sum will be in stake events. Richest Grass Race in World The Arlington Handicap, which will be renewed over the turf course again, is the richest grass event in the world. It will be run on the closing day of the meeting, July 30. The Classic date is July 16. Emphasis is being placed on the turf course racing and in addition to the Arlington, the Stars and Stripes, with 5,000 added and to be run July 4, and the 0,000 Modefsty for fillies and mares, scheduled for July 11, also will be decided over the greensward. This year, Arlington Park will be able to accommodate 1,704 horses, a new barn having been built and some 200 feed rooms converted to stalls. Several improvements, principally those providing best living quarters possible for the stable area personnel, also have been made since last years meeting. Returning to the Primer, Tiger Wander, due chiefly to his pair of stake wins at the Balmoral meeting, will carry top weight of 122 pounds. Call Me Lucky, who, like Homeplace, will carry 114 pounds, will be piloted by Willie Hartack, Americas leading rider at present. . Next to Tiger Wander in the weight allotments are C. P. Morriss Colonel Wilson, Mrs. Rices Plight History, W. H. Bishops Skeptical Kid, and Axton and Burgers Doc Eggers, each with 118 pounds. The others, all of which will tote 114 pounds, are Hasty House Farms Roman Boss, H. P. Krimen-dahls Night Intruder, Theodore Buhls Dark Toga, Sam E. Wilson, Jr.s Royal Honor, Harry G-. Jones Another Page, Saucier and Cashs Almas Heart, M. L. Stackers Count Swedak, Starlace Stables Irish Dream, and the Fred W. Hooper pair of Hoop Band and Olympias Ace. Tiger Wander, who will have the advantage of breaking from inside post position, triumphed in both the Joliet Stakes and the Apprentice Stakes at Balmoral. He had previously won the Bashford Manor at Churchill Downs. If all seventeen juveniles start, the Primer will gross 9,325. Homeplace, a son of Nasrullah, is highly regarded by his owner, who purchased him for a large sum at private transaction. Many are of the belief that he would have beaten Tiger Wander in the Joliet had he not been away from the starting gate sluggishly. Rice Pair Seen Strong Threats The Rice entry, should they run back to recent races, figure to be strong contenders in the Primer. Call Me Lucky has started but once, winning a five-furlong dash at Delaware Park early this month. Flight History opened his career at Bowie, finishing third at four and one-half furlongs. Later he won at the Maryland course and shipped to Garden State Park to score again. Skeptical Kid, who has been unplaced but once in ten starts, was victorious last ; time out at Balmoral. His lone stakes sue- . cess was .in the Duncan Kenner at the ; Fair Grounds. He was third in the La- fayette and Apprentice and unplaced in the Joliet. Hell have Steve Brooks, Balmorals leading jockey, in the saddle. Colonel Wilson was badly beaten as the favorite last time out after having finished third in the Joliet Stakes. He has two purses to his credit. Doc Egger-s went into : the Joliet with two scores in as many starts, but was unplaced in the stake. Dark Toga . made his first start here recently and was second to Olympias Ace at five and one- 1 half furlongs. 1 Olympias Ace and Hoop Band, the Hooper pair, were both winners at Bal- 1 moral. Another Page is a maiden making his fifth start. Night Intruder registered his 1 maiden score after eight tries when he won i at Balmoral last week. Almas Heart, who : is making his twelfth start, ,has not shown 1 i : too much. Roman Boss, in his sixth outing, was unplaced in the Apprentice Stakes. Royal HonorTiger Wanders nuining mate, has one victory in six attempts.
