Explanation of Daily Racing Form Indexed Entries and Past Performances Condition of track In Indexed entries is fast or good unless shown by the following abbreviations: si, slow; sy, sloppy; m, muddy; hy, heavy. X Good mud runner. Fair mud runner. 8 Superior mud runner. "f" after final odds denotes field; "e" after final odds denotes entry; "M denotes favorite In race. three pounds apprentice allowance; five pounds apprentice allowance; tsix pounds apprentice allowance; .seven pounds apprentice allowance; A 10 pounds apprentice allowance. Following horses name, M indicates maiden, on flat. and,MJ Indicates maiden steeplechaser. Class of race is denoted by the following abbreviations: Mdn, maidens; AIwM, maiden allowance; AIw, allowance; AlwA, graded allowance; AIwS, allowance stake; HcpO. overnight handicap; HcpA, graded handicap; HcpS, handicap stake; Wfa, weight-for-age; WfaS, welght-for-age stake; ScwS, scale weight stake; SpWS, special weight stake; Comb, combination race; SpIW, special weight; Mtch, match race. Some of these abbreviations are used also to denote steeplechase and hurdle races. In such cases as S in a single bracket, S, Is used for steeplechases, and H in a single bracket, CH, indicates hurdle events. A "STARTER" race is an overnight event without a claiming clause, restricted to horses who have previously started for the designated claiming price or less, as stated in the condition of the "STARTER" race. Effective January 1, 1955, this type of race is shown in the past performances with the claiming price designated in the "STARTER" race preceded by the letter "A" or "H" to indicate allowance or handicap. "S" indicates special weights. If no price is stipulated in conditions, designation appears "A" or "H ". Claiming races are indicated by price after jockeys name. Claiming price tor today is given after trainers name, "c" before claiming price indicates horse was claimed. Imported horses shown after breeders name. Post position is shown after jockeys name. Where horse breaks from outside the gate his original post position will be shown in a circle thus: . Optional claiming races are Indicated by a superior "o" immediately preceding or following the claiming price. A superior letter "o" preceding the claiming price indicates that the horse was not entered to be claimed. A superior letter "o" following the claiming price indicates that the horse was entered to be claimed. Note: The latter is being used only for optional claiming races run on or after April 12, 1954. Combination races are the same as optional claiming races. Last line in past performances gives horses latest workouts. "Feb 26 Hia 3-8 ft :35hg" informs the reader that the horse worked on Feb. 26 at Hialeati Park. The distance of the trial was three furlongs. The time was 35 seconds handily from the gate, the track fast h" means handily; "b" breezing; "d" driving; "e" easily; "g" worked from gate; "u" eased up. Note: The abbreviations trt, wc or tc preceding the distance of the trial Indicate the course over which the work was recorded; trt meaning training track, wc Widener Course, and tc meaning turf course.
