Hy Turkin, Sportswriter, Dies in New York at 40 NEW YORK, N. Y., June 24 UP. Hy Turkin, New York Daily News sportswriter and co-author of the official baseball Encyclopedia, died today at University Hospital of a liver ailment. He was 40. Turkin, a member of the Daily News staff for 20 years, had been ill for more than six months. He co-authored the baseball encyclopedia with S. C. Thompson after several years of research. He is survived by his widow, Florence, and 11-year-old daughter, Marge, living in Forest Hills, .N. Y. The funeral will be Sunday morning.
