High Gun Breezes Easy Mile in 1 :41 at Aqueduct King Ranch Colt Equipped With Double Check Rein in Workout AQUEDUCT, L. I., N. Y., June 24. King Ranchs High Gun came out on the track here after the third race today and breezed an easy mile in preparation for the seven-furlong Carter Handicap on July 4. Equipped with a dauble check rein that extended from the bit to his girth on each side and ridden by an apparently heavy exercise rider, Jose "Pies" Garcia, the handsome son of Heliopolis skipped the distance in 1:41 without the slightest effort. Breaking in front of the stands, after jogging slowly from the paddock accompanied by a pony, High Gun stepped the fractions in :13, :254s, :38, half in :51, five furlongs in 1:03, three-quarters in 1:16 and seven furlongs in 1:28. The equipment used on High Gun, which was evidently designed to keep his head straight as he made his acquaintance with the sharp Aqueduct turns, is highly unusual and suggested the poles that are sometimes used on harness horses for a similar purpose.
