Eight in Omahas George Brandeis Butch K. May Be Favored to End Calloway Ks Winning Streak at Ak-Sar-Ben Oval By PAT CAUDILL Staff Correspondent AK-SAR-BEN, Omaha, Nebr., June 24. The ,000 added George Brandeis Memorial Handicap, a test for three-year-olds and upward, has drawn eight starters and will head Saturdays program. Eighteen were weighted for the one mile and 70 yards event by racing secretary Kenneth W. Mcintosh last Monday with the three highweights failing to pass the entry box. Top weight of 114 pounds will be carried by four of the campaigners. This foursome includes Butch K., owned by Guy and Walter Shultz, to be ridden by jockey Robert Mundorf; Harry Wells Calloway K., to have the services of jockey Tommy Osment; Marion H. VanBergs Dagazha with jockey Sonny Ray Williams aboard, and I. R. Salleys Mr. Favor who will again be handled by jockey Billy Powell. Completing the field will be J. K. Houssels Tolerant, weighted closely behind with 112 pounds, with jockey Robert Ford as the rider; J. W. Coopers Undone, 105, with apprentice Larry Byers and an entry representing F. O. Akin consisting of Appointment with 104 pounds and Gallaride with the lightest weight of the group, 102 pounds. Consistent Money Finisher The role of favorite at post time will perhaps again fall to Butch K who disappointed in his last outing, the Ak-Sar-Ben Queens Plate Handicap on June 11 which was won by Calloway K with the Shultz representative finishing fifth. Butch K., who has finished in the money 19 of his last 21 starts was an easy winner of the Ak-Sar-Ben Governors Handicap here on June 4 and is unlikely to lose support from his many local admirers. Calloway K., winner of an allowance event here June 4, came back to score an upset victory in the Ak-Sar-Ben Queens Plate by turning back the top performers here and with the outlook of an "off" track for Saturdays endeavor, he looms a very strong threat as he is known to perform his best over soft going. Mr. Favor has yet to score at this meeting and Dagazha, shipped here from Detroit for tomorrows event and the 0,000 Ak-Sar-Ben Handicap on July 4, will be striving for his first winning effort of the year but must be strongly considered as he chalked up five victories last year and appears classy enough to merit a strong chance. Mrs. George Brandeis, widow of the late Omaha business and civic leader for whom the event is named, will appear in the winners circle ceremony presenting the traditional Ak-Sar-Ben silver plate to the owner of the winner.
