Nominate-Social Outcast For Arc de Triomphe . Vanderbilt Racer Joins Determine As U.S. Representatives in Race NEW YORK, N. Y., June 24. Alfred G. Vanderbilts Social Outcast, one of Americans most accomplished handicap performers, today was nominated for the October 9 renewal of the rich Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp, Paris, by trainer Bill Winfrey, who submitted the entry in the absence of the five-year-olds owner, who is now in Europe. The decision to name Social Outcast for the most important of Frances fall classics was transmitted by Winfrey to J. Samuel Perlman, editor and publisher of Daily Racing Form, who had been requested by the .Societe dEncduragement, French equivalent of The Jockey Club, to invite outstanding United States thoroughbreds to participate in the race. Andrew J. Crevolins Determine was named for the event yesterday. The owners of Americas best three-year-olds, Swaps and Nashua, also revealed today why they had regretfully declined invitations to ship their colts abroad for the Arc de Triomphe, one mile and a half, weight-for-age stake which was first run in 1920 and grossed 2,640 last year. Re Ellsworth, owner of Swaps, notified the publisher that "he was "highly gratified" that his Kentucky Derby winner had been accorded the honor of being invited to start in the race but that he had to decline because his horse is a three-year-old. He asked the publisher to advise the Societe dEncouragement that he would be "quite receptive to an invitation of this magnitude" next year. Ellsworth added that he believed future races for Swaps in this country on the grass would aid in his preparation for the Arc de Triomphe and that he would have a much better reason for considering shipping the colt in 1956 that he has now. William Woodward, Jr., whose Nashua is Swaps lone opponent for sophomore honors,, also said he was "highly honored" in having his colt invited for the Arc de Triomphe but regretted that the schedule already mapped for him precludes the possibility of his being shipped abroad.
