Mobile Outgames Ferke To Annex Haggin Stakes HOLLYWOOD PARK, Inglewood, Calif., June 23. With little more than a head separating the first three finishers, Arcadia Stables Mobile outgamed Ferke and Nuclear Power in a driving finish to capture the 6,400 Haggin Stakes Thursday at Hollywood Park. Breaking from the gate alertly, Mobile was never more than a portion of a length back of the leaders as he engaged Ferke and Nuclear Power early and the trio raced almost as a team from the five-sixteenths pole home. They hit the quarter in :22Vs, with Mobile on top but it was Ferke who clicked off the half-mile time of :45. The race to the wire down the straightaway was a tough one with Nuclear Power on the rail, Ferke between horses and Mobile on the inside. Ismaei Valenzuela on Ferke and Gordon Glisson on Nuclear Power had their whip action limited because of the close quarters. Longden, on the other hand, was able to do his mount full justice and the bay colt responded gamely to get the decision by a head. Ferke, who whipped Mobile in the Westchester Stakes was a lip in front of Nuclear Power. Heavily favored by the crowd of 19,937, Mobile returned .00, .70 and .40 across the board.
