Sixteen Fillies, Mares Match Speed in 2,000 New Castle I Gainsboro Girl, Cerise Reine, Evening Out, Lavender Hill, Spinning Top Each Tote 120 By PALMER HEAGERTY Staff Correspondent DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., June 24. The 5,000 added "new" New Castle Stakes, second gem in Delaware Parks Distaff Big Three," has attracted a star-studded field of 16 fillies and mares for its inaugural running. The mile and one-sixteenth feature, to be followed in one week by the 10,000 added Delaware Handicap, richest race in the world for members of this sex, will gross 2,000 should the overnight field remain intact. Sixteen Fillies, Mares Match Speed in 2,000 New Castle Gainsboro Girl, Cerise Reine Evening Out Lavender Hill, Spinning Top Each Tote 120 Continued from Page One next weeks Delaware Handicap is Cana-diana. Gainsboro Girl won last seasons New Castle, which is now the Delaware, and; earned a purse in excess of 00,000. In her last start, the Bernborough mare was second behind Foxcatchers Parlo in the Top Flight Handicap, which . could be enough to send her postward tomorrow as a slight favorite in the wide open affair. She will have the -saddle services of her regular rider Augie Catalano. Evening Out comes off a smashing victory in Monmouths Regret Handicap, in which she showed a return to her good form. Prior to that race she had been unimpressive but trainer Bert Mulholland feels that she is again at tops. The Shut Out four-year-old will be ridden by Jack Westrope. Cerise Reine has failed in stakes com- pany this season but her general form has been excellent. She was sidelined for a spell prior to this meeting and in a recent conditioning sprint was an easy winner in 1:11 and went out a mile in 1:39 and change. Willie Hartack will fly here from Chicago to ride Cerise Reine for his employer. Spinning Tops Trials Good Spinning Top has been on, the grounds for considerable time training for this event and the forthcoming Deleware and she certainly will not lack conditioning, as evidenced by several clever trials. Her running companion Queens Beeches was a good winner in England, but was unplaced in her recent American debut. Norman Cox will handle Spinning Top, with Oliver Cut-shaw scheduled to ride Queens Beeches. Lavender-Hill, last years champion of the filly and mare division, has failed to reain her top form this season. In her last j outing she was ninth in a race won by Dispute, with Parlo, Oil Painting and Evening Out earning the other money positions. Eldon Nelson will make his initial appearance of the season to handle her. Of the others, Open Sesame and Blue Violin shape up as prominent contenders. Open Sesame, who earned a money position in many three-year-old stakes last season, but who failed to win a race, has been pointed for this one and will be difficult to handle. She has shown more will to win than she did last season and comes off a recent winning effort. Blue Violin was flown here from Chicago after having accounted for the Honeymoon at Balmoral. Tony DeSpirito will be astride Open Sesame, while Chris Rogers will ride. Blue Violin.
