Elmer G. Smith on First Winner PAIRMOUNT PARK, Collinsville, HI., May 11. — When Inky Dink carried him home in the second race Thursday night apprentice Elmer G. Smith, a 20-year-old native of Collinsville, became the third novice at this meeting to win the initial race of his riding career. Harrel Bolin was the first, then Noble Hay and followed by Smith who is a 105-pounder and who galloped horses three years. Smith had several mounts last year and his ride on-Inky Dink was his fifth mount at the meeting. Smith is under contract to Frank James who acquired the papers from the Locust Lawn Farm, owned by Paul Serdar, chairman of the Illinois Racing Board.
