Roman Spy Takes Seven Hearts Purse To Complete Double for Grosfield I Full of Bim Wins Earlier * * On Bill for Detroit Owner; Pie Bed Second in Feature CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 11. — Edward J. Grosfields silks were carried to their second success here this summerlike afternoon when Roman Spy, a five-year-old Roman gelding, beat .a quick field in the featured Seven Hearts Purse. Superbly handled by Robert Lee Baird, the Detroit-owned winner reached the finish of the six furlongs two lengths before William J. Sprow Jr.s Pie Bed. Slightly more than two lengths away William Boganowskis Lyrin Ridge was up for the show while M. J. Schmitts Mary H. lasted for fourth in the eight-horse starting band. Roman Spy. under 113 pounds, one of which was overweight, raced the three-quarters, mile over the fast track in an impressive 1:10%. Not too well-regarded by the crowd of more than 8,500 oh hand for the sport, the Grosfield representative returned his straight pool backers 37 to 10. Trainer Al Cleff saddled both the Grosfield starters, having tightened the. girth on Full of Bim earlier in the matinee, Edward J. Grosfields Bull of Bim, handled by Bobby Baird, coasted to an easy six lengths graduation decision in the six furlongs Hindoo Purse, which matched a capacity field of three-year-olds. Full of Bim established an early lead and was never seriously threatened while Monroe and Tylers Hearts Glee took second honors by slightly, more than two lengths from L. T. Schavels Joe Jr. J. Graham Browns favored Quiilo was along for fourth money. Full of Bim, a Bimelech gelding, raced the sprint distance in 1:11% and was a 6 to 1 chance in the speculation. y E. W. Fergusons Impressed, with Doug Dodson up, scored a head verdict at the end of the six furlongs Osmand Purse Mrs. N. J. Harnandez Pit Away was second, three lengths before Herve Racivitchs Sivis in the band of eight second-year racers. Impressed, clocked in 1:11%, was, a 3 to 2 choice. The Johns Joy gelding went to J. Banking Lady, a 4 to 1 shot, and Seventh Tribe, 2.40 straight, combined for a 23.20 Daily Double return.
