Prompt Impulse Beats Male Rivals Posts Two-Length 1 Margin at Camden Koko Dozo Finishes Second, The Posse Third as Favored Amawalk Fails in Headliner By WILLIAM C. PHILLIPS GARDEN STATE PARK, Camden, N. J., May 11. — Justin Funkhousers Prompt Impulse was the only filly in a field of nine crack sprinters that contested the featured Wildwood Crest Purse this afternoon, but at the finish she led her male rivals by two lengths and returned a 5.40 mutuel. Four horses finished abreast in a photo for the second honors. D. G. Neumans Koko Dozo gained the position on the outside by a head, Barben Stables The Posse was third between horses, and Mrs. Ada B. E"klbfs Amawalk was another nose behind in fourth place. R. C. Hannas Candle Wood was fifth, an additional nose behind. Jaclyn Stables The Genius, retired after injury as a three-year-old, was making his debut in todays six-furlong feature and he displayed sharp speed down the back-stretch. Prompt Impulse was briefly in front passing the half-mile marker as The Genius raced wide and was taken under restraint by Walter Blum. Henry Moreno, astride the winning four-year-old filly, i used excellent judgment and eased Prompt Impulse back while saving ground at the far turn. The Genius shot to the front ■while under wraps and Blum got him over ] to ihe rail, but the Priam II. gelding at- J tempted to bolt when Prompt Impulse drew beside him on the outside entering the stretch and Blum had to swing him back sharply to keep from impeding the filly. Easily Establishes Long Lead Prompt Impulse and The Genius had ; been well in front of the field from the beginning and the winning daughter of Noble Impulse easily established a long lead for the stretch drive, which she willingly: maintained under Morenos urging. She j carried a steadying 117 pounjds, giving away weight to all but Dudley Darbury, _ and she was timed the six furlongs in 1:101s.. The crowd of 15,725 attending this chilly afternoon installed Amawalk their favorite in the feature. The five-year-old gelding lacked speed to be in serious contention early, despite virgorous handling by Willie Hartack, and could not get up while being fortunate enough to find room next to the rail in the drive. .Hartack won the fourth race on the program astride Calumet Farms Bardstown, and when he returned to the winners circle the crowd greeted him with a chorus of applause and good natured kidding. Willie took off on his mounts yesterday, but the victory was his first in three days. From Tuesday through the early races today he had failed to* win in .16 attempts.
