LGreat Lakes Handicap Draws Five Newcomers to Hazel Park DETROIT, Mich., May 11. — Five thoroughbreds who have never before raced in Michigan have been nominated for the Great Lakes Handicap, inaugural feature for the Hazel "Park opener Monday, May 21, Horace Wade, racing secretary and director of racing, announced today. The Great Lakes is at six furlongs for three-year-olds* and upward, for a purse of ,000. Bryan Wise, who is coming to Hazel Park with a powerful 30-horse stable, has nominated Validon, Next Page and Vray. Edward Grosfield, local businessman and a director at Hazel Park, has named his good sprinter Roman Spy, and the O G Ranch their star speedster Melzar.
