► - : Barba Toni Accounts For 0,435 Italian Derby Special, to Daily Racing Form ROME, Italy, May 11 Reuters.— Barba Toni, who was expected to serve as a pacemaker for his better-fancied stable companion, brought off a surprise victory in the Italian Derby today, run over 12 furlongs at the Capa-nelle course here. Owned and trained by the Mantova Stable, Barba Toni was ridden by S. Pacifici, the stables second jockey. Their first string in the race was Conte Discotti who was ridden by Vittorio Rosa, one of Italys leading riders. Barba Toni, by Fante out of Istriana, took the lead going into the straightaway and held off thCcletermined challenge by another outsider, MianKSta-bles Pisani to win by" a half length. .Third, a similar distance behind in the field of nine, was Count N. De Zaras well - fancied candidate, Talismano. Marquis Incisas Tissot, the 6-to-4 favorite, finished fourth. The stakes which had previously been won by such greats of the turf as Donatello, Nearco, Tenerani and, Botticelli, was worth 0,435.
