Church Church Guides Guides Haaain Haggin Colt Colt T. of of of P To Six-Length Accounting; Runs Nine Furlongs in 1 :49 By PAT CAUDILL THISTLEDOWN, North Randall, Ohio, June 22. — Manteau, sporting the burnt orange and blue silks of Louis Lee Haggin II., and expertly handled by jockey Kenneth Church, accounted for the twenty-third . running of the Ohio Derby as he came to the wire six lengths in front of Alie Grissoms Shan Pac. The 6,000 added event drew 12 three-year-olds at the distance of one mile and one-eighth with the gross value of the race being 0,260. For his effort today, Manteau netted the sum of 8,980 as he scored his fifth victory the year. Hoggins Accept Trophy. Presenting the trophy to owner Haggin who was accompanied by his wife was the honorable Thomas A. Burke, former mayor Cleveland and United States Senator. Burke was also accompanied by Mrs. Burke. A huge crowd of 13,047 fans braved the hot. humid heat of the afternoon and light rains that fell when the field was entering fhe starting gate and during the running the race, failed to move the majority of the crowd to shelter. A length back of the place horse, Shan Pac, was J. A. Prices Dorchester Farm stables Air Wonder who gained the show position by a neck over W. J. Sprow Jr.s Cardinal Sin. Lane of Oden, Texas, scampered to a four lengths victory in easy fashion as she beat out six fillies of her own age in the Susan Trial, fifth and co-feature race of the afternoon. The preview of next Saturdays ,500 added Susan was contested at five furlongs for a purse of ,000.
