AP President Robert McLean To Breed Yearlings for Sales Veteran ShoyTHorseman Owns Four Broodmares, j Has Shares in Stallions PHILADELPHIA, Pa., June 22.— Robert McLean, president and publisher of the Philadelphia Bulletin-and president of the Associated Press since 1938, has joined the ranks of racing patrons as a breeder of thoroughbreds to be sold at market. McLean has long been interested in horses, having owned field hunters and show horses for more than 25 years. This is his first venture into a phase of thoroughbred racing. McLean now owns four well-bred broodmares, each with foal at side, and has interests in two stallions in addition to shares in Traffic Judge, who recently won the Metropolitan Handicap, when that sterling performer is retired to stud. His other stallions are Your Host and Sea Charger, both highly promising sires. Advised by General Lyman McLean began assembling his thoroughbred holdings about a year ago, acting with the advice of General and Mrs. Charles B. Lyman of West Chester, Pa., with whom he has been associated for many years in horse operations. All of McLeans stock is at the Lymans Maui Meadow farm near West Chester. His four mares areJBunoora, Fast Gal II.. Sterling Maid and Glocca Morra. Bunoora ► = is by Mahmoud out of Thorn Apple, by Jamestown. She has. a handsome colt foal by Battlefield at her side and has been bred back to Royal Charger. Fast Gal H. comes from one of the finest female families in Europe. She is by Alyci-don out of Aromatic n. and traces her bottom line to the foundation mare Marchetta, whose family has had the greatest representation on the English Free Handicap for two-year-olds. Fast Gal II. has a colt foal by Royal Coinage and has been bred back to the New Jersey siie Your Host. Sterling Maid is the dam of the stakes winners Calvados aftid Symposium. She is by Easton out of Betsy Ross II., by Mahmoud and was a winner in Europe. She has a youngster by Slide Rule at her side and is now in foal to Sea Charger. Glocca Morra, bred to Slide Rule, has a colt foal -by Sea Charger. She is by Shannon IT. — BliiQBlack, by Black Servant. McLean is an active member of the Pennsylvania Jlorse Breeders Association, a subscriber Fo the Wissahickon Hounds, and a former member of the Whitemarsh Valley- and Pickering Hunt clubs. He is -also a member of the Oakland Club, Pine-ville, S. C. and the Santee Club, McLellan-ville, S. C.
