Y., June 22. — Three stakes are slated for the fourth full week of racing here at Belmont, starting with Mondays 82d running of the Withers Mile for three-year-olds. The other stakes next week are Wednesdays rich National Stallion for juvenile, colts at five furlongs on the Widener straightaway and the 0,000 Roseben Handicap at seven furlongs on Saturday. The National Stallion has 5,000 added, but is run under Futurity conditions and will net the winner approximately 5,000, depending on the number of starters. The field is expected to be sizable, in the absence of any outstanding juvenile colt in this area, with G. D. Wideners Jester, Myron H. Goodwins Jimmer, Claiborne Farms Sir Ruler, Templeton Stables Clandestine, Wheatley Stables Nasco and Misty Flight the more likely of those to have raced here. Decimal May Seek Roseben The Roseben is expected to attract Edward Seinfelds Toboggan winner, Decimal, Brookfield Farms Impromptu and Itoibe, Clearwarter Stables Porterville and Cavort, Lou P. Dohertys Traffic Judge, Maine Chance Farms Jet Action and, possibly, Montpeliers Nahodah. Mrs. Adele L. Rands Clem heads a speedy field of six colts in Mondays With-I ers and looms a l-to-2 favorite for the fixture which was inaugurated u~-v in 1874 at Jerome Park with the - Dublin. Aristides, the first Kentuc inner, won the first renewal ox „iers, a. stakes which has gone to many of the "immortals" of the American turf, including Duke of Magneta, Domino, Colin, Sir Barton, Man o War and Count Fleet. There have also been some startling upsets in this event, however, notably in 1948 when Coaltown was as prohibitive a choice as Clem promises to be and succumbed to Vulcans Forge. Last years Withers was run at Jamaica with the outsider, Oh Johnny, beating the second choice, Eiffel Blue, while the favored Golf Ace finished sixth. If all six go postward in Mondays Withers, the stakes will have a gross value of 8,150 and a gross prize to the winner of 9,400, including 00 in eligibility fees. The five opposing Clem, who merely galloped seven furlongs in 1:22% in the Shev-lin 10 days ago, are Brookfield Stables Irate, Greentree Stables Cohoes, Joe W. Browns Tenacious, J. R. Weiners Nitime and Maine Chance Farms Legal Crisis. All six will carry 126 pounds. Prior to his victory in the Shevlin here, Clem had finished second, beaten inches, behind Iron Liege in the Jersey Stakes at a mile and a furlong, and third behind King Hairan and Irate, beaten a half length and a neck, in the six-furlong Delaware Valley Stakes. However, Irate picks up 13 pounds since the Delaware Valley, while Clem adds only two. Conn McCreary will ride Clem, while Eddie Arcaro has been named for Irate. Since finishing between King Hairan .and Clem at Garden State,* Irate won an overnight six furlongs at that track, then finished a good third behind The Crack and Vertex in the six-furlong Select Stakes at Monmouth, a face run in 1:09%. Irate seems almost certain to take the lead on Monday, with Clem and Cohoes in closest pursuit. However, Clem was getting to Irate the last time they met and the Brookfield .colt has yet to show that he can carry his speed beyond three-quarters. Cohoes is a speedy, but erratic colt who would rate serious consideration on his best form. Last out, the son of Mahmoud turned " back Inside Tract at a mile and a furlong here, then was_scratched from the Belmont Continued on Page Twelve Clem Meets Quintet in Withers on Monday Sheylin Winner May Be Odds-on . Choice in Belmont Mile Event Continued from Page Three-Stakes, in which Inside Tract finished second, when trainer John Gaver thought the track might be "off" as a result of the previous nights rain. Before his victory here, Cohoes finished fourth to Out to Win, North End and Missile in the High Time Handicap on opening day, beaten a little more than five lengths after being sluggish early, then racing wide. However, Ted Atkinsons mount won his only other race this year at Jamaica impressively, but had-only 113 to carry, while getting nine pounds from such as Timely Bull and Hicks Error. That was at six furlongs. Nitime stopped badly in a mile event won by Bureaucracy over Nah Hiss and Tenacious here last Tuesday, but turned in some excellent races in Florida and may have been in need of this race. Willie Lester is to ride. Before Tuesdays race, Tenacious finished third, beaten nine lengths, behind Clem and Out to Win in the Shevlin. He will have Ray Broussard aboard. Legal Crisis, who will be ridden by Raul Sterling, closed well to be second to; Kings Chapel, in a seven-furlong event run in 1:26 on June 8 here.
