Cahokia Downs to Stage Nine-Race Card Monday Turquesa,Ghentand Bonnie Gains Among Sprint Band in Main Event By J. J. HAHN CAHOKIA DOWNS, East St. Louis, HI., June 22. — Racing at Cahokia Downs goes on a six-days-a-week basis starting Monday night. This will be the first of four Mondays left during the meeting, compensating the association for the programs that were cancelled due to unfavorable weather conditions. Mondays card of nine races has been given over to performers in the claiming ranks with the sixth, a five furlongs dash for three-year-olds and upward, getting top billing. Slated to match strides here are T. O. Longdens First Chance, Mr. and Mrs. R. Cramers Cleetsie, J. M. Stewarts For Country, D. J. Hartnetts Kayo Kid, J. F. Harpers Bonnie Gains, D. Fluck and H. Hunsakers Carol Storme, E. Burwells Turquesa, and Mr. and Mrs. G. B. Holmans Ghent. Another race that should prove interesting on Mondays card is the ninth. Eight Hlinois-breds are scheduled to compete at six and a half furlongs here with T. A. Logsdons Edith L. out to garner her second straight purse of the session. She will be opposed by Qualify, Sheiks Image, Miss Maryville, Grandma Bina, Derby Play and Fretful. The regular 8:30 post time will be in force on all Monday programs. Bleak, a four-year-old gelded son of Grey Wing and Cold Ray, racing in the silks of Perry Stephenson and ridden by Lyle Jacob Colclasure, local leading rider, captured the Westwood Purse, a mile event that featured a fine card here Friday night. The brown gelding took the measure of Earl Millards Yellow Fy, J. L. Clevelands Chic Bettyann and five others, before 5,087 fans. Blendon was sent into a long early lead while the ultimate winner, racing in good form, forced the pace under double wraps as Tiger Dancer, Oalo, Yellow Fly, G. Lad and Ch|c Bettyann were all closely bunched going down the backstretch. After a half mile Blendon was in front by four lengths with Bleak, still under stout restraint, forcing the pace and Tiger Dancer third and Yellow Fly moving up fourth as the others dropped" out of it. As they passed the far turn Blendon began to shorten stride and Bleak was sent around the early leader, with Yellow Fly 1 Continued on Pag* Twshe Cahokia Downs to Stage Nine-Race Card Monday Turquesa,Ghentand Bonnie Gains Among Sprint Band in Main Event Continued from Page Fifty-Six moving up third. At the head of the stretch the Stephenson colorbearer began to bear out as Yellow Fly moved up to force the pace and was only a length away from the top one but Bleak had something left as Yellow Fly lacked a late rally and the son of Grey Wing went under the line of finish by two lengths. Yellow Fly was 10 lengths before Chic Bettyann, who saved the place by a pair of lengths from the faltering Blendon. Blue Maid, an improved daughter of Unbreakable, won her second straight at the meeting in the sevn furlongs third, another allowance affair, easily, defeating Mambo Man and Imperial Ace under Terry Murphy. The Pat Dolan Stables Capodocian, coupled with Princess Ellen, served as the public choice in the six and one-half furlongs fourth race, an allowance affair for three-year-olds. The son of Revoked easily took the measure of I Will Fly while Princess Ellen came from out of it to garner the minor portion of the purse. Rafael Sanabria had the mount on the winner. Daily Double players who coupled Hart Par in the first with Top Gale in the second received the fine return of 08.40.
